Only one of them eats steak. The older one is practically a vegetarian.

Do you know of any restaurants that cook a steak to rare, and then only serve the middle portion?
So that is a yes.

The point is that the middle of that looks raw and you eat that portion too. I have no desire to eat raw meat even if it is attached to meat that isn't raw.

I'm not going to shit on how someone likes their steak cooked, though...my grandma is of the old school variety where everything must be cooked to death.

I made a steak for her a few years back...to get it to her preferred level of done-ness, I had to set the damn thing on fire.

That was fun.

What? Do you know of any restaurants that cook a steak to rare, and then only serve the middle portion? Because I don't.

Boilermaker Rick wrote:

Those steaks were on a grill, which means the middle parts aren't raw. Very rare, but not raw. A rare steak is 130 degrees in the middle. 130 degrees is not raw.

I'm not talking about your preferences, I'm just saying that the steaks IMU posted are not raw.

No, and I wasn't saying they do that. This is you literally not trying to understand which is ironic given your first comment here. So, no real reason to continue this.

Then what was the point of your "if you were served that, you would think it is raw" comment? Restaurants serve steaks. It would have been weird if I said that the bank serves steaks.

Boilermaker Rick wrote:

You said that a rare steak is raw. There is no possible way to explain that.

True. I'll just take the chance on the meat that looks cooked and if I miss out on a great "blue" steak then I'll be fine.

hold up now. a very rare steak looks cooked on the outside but is raw in the middle. in other words, may be room temp or less.

Eat your steak how you want. You aren't alone in not wanting a rare/medium rare steak. When I cook steaks here, mine is medium rare, and the steaks for my wife and MIL, are medium or medium well.

However, suggesting that a rare steak is raw is false. 130 degrees is not raw. Suggesting that there is somebody, or some place, that sears a steak, and then serves only the middle portion is bizarre, and I can't imagine that I am the only person to find that confusing.

Yup.

Thus the need for the warnings on almost all menus about consuming "raw or undercooked meats".

A properly prepared and cooked steak, has been brought to room temperature, before it goes on the heat.

You would get sick if you ate a raw steak. I have never gotten sick from eating a rare steak, whether cooked at home, a restaurant, or any other place that serves steak.

I've eaten raw meat plenty of times and never gotten sick as far as I can tell. I would not eat rare or raw industrial ground meat though. For that I'd grind my own.

While I'm not that extreme it is my experience that at most cookouts that the cook undercooks anything besides chicken by a significant margin. My plate was a pool of red on my medium well steak. I'll just have a burger.

and at restaurants, the chef wants to impose his will on your eating so medium is medium rare and medium well is medium. I don't order well done or charred steaks
