I went to a conference in NC a few weeks ago where one of the presenters asked everyone their favorite BBQ restaurant as an ice breaker. Well, he's recorded those answers for the past 25+ years to create a list. It's not necessarily an endorsement of all these places, but at least one person has stated each restaurant as a favorite. The list is very NC heavy (as that's where a lot of participants are from), but I believe almost every state is represented, as well as a few other countries. Anyone been to any of these?

(For the record, my contribution was Gale Street Inn in Jefferson Park. Though not a classic BBQ joint, they have my favorite ribs in the city.)

Real Urban BBQ.

You know it's authentic since they have "real" in its name.

I don't like ribs either. Pulled pork or brisket for me.

An acquaintance of mine is opening up a BBQ place in the old Mohr's on Devon in Edgebrook. He has been working on his BBQ techniques the last few years with catering and selling at the restaurant at Tam golf course. I think he is going to make a killing. It is going to be a bar as well. I fully expect it will also be a place where people deliver envelopes on Wednesday and others pick up on Thursday

I'm not sure why they got out as I think they also own Mia Figlia next door.

I was kind of hoping I could. I know they went to a big money source in the neighborhood for their capital investment and probably didn't need any junior type investors after that.

No, I know the couple who own Mia Figlia. It's pretty good for a neighborhood place. I'm sure some Irish dude owned Moher.

Yes, they do.

Texas Outlaws BBQ in Kentucky is on there. They're great. I never like ribs until I tried those.

I think Frank hit it right, ribs are too much work for too little meat. The noble rib tip is another matter though.

The concept of a sit down bbq restaurant is a bit goofy to me though. BBQ is meant to be savored at home, or if you're lucky, at (family) events where the pace, company, drinks & company match the relaxed cooking method.

My oldest son & I have had a tradition of great take out Q & sports on tv, or me on the back porch reading a book queing & with him coming by every so often to snatch up the quicker cooking cuts. Either way a sitdown restaurant for bbq here has proven unsatisfying on a variety of levels.

Damn I haven't had bbq in almost three months :( I'll be glad when the boy comes home from school...

I think it's completely the opposite. You can get a good meaty rib. Rib tips are a pain in the butt.

It's why I can't argue against ribs, it's just that the quality can be spotty at bbq places. I no longer have a "place" for ribs

I can see where tips can be a fatty pain, unless you grew up with them. Kinda like Marylanders eating whole crabs or folks who grew up on whole oysters.

Rib tips are my favorite bbq dish, especially when served with good hot links.

And as a member of a 100% Polish-American family, I can assure you that this glorious food didn't make it into the regular dinner rotation during my childhood.
