I'm going to be in Schaumburgh tomorrow and plan on eating a little Mexican. I was also going to get lunch. I have been at the new Uncle Julios in the mall and wasn't floored. (The original one in Chicago is still the best). Haven't tried Chuy's yet.

Opinions?

Go to On the Border or Lalo's.

How far do you want to go from the mall? There is a place on Wise Rd by Frost Jr High called Cruz's that my HP brethren go to.

I too was underwhelmed by Uncle Julio’s.

Why would you consider going to either of these shitholes?

Go to Tapalpa in Elk Grove...not too far from the Mecca, but far enough that you aren't stuck at some shitty franchise.

Your bowels will be paying a few hours afterwards.

That place is great. I go there a lot for lunch. But that is even further.

Mexican chain restaurants mostly suck. Pepe's is the only one worth a damn and even then they are hit/miss.

The folks in the office like Chuy's better. We used to have a Lalo's crowd, but I thought that place was crap. The lunch buffet was yuk. We also feature Chevy's and On the Border all within view shot of my office. We aren't the mecca for nothing!

Yeah, further away from the Streamwood-part of Schaumburg.

My dad always loved that place. But if you're right around Woodfield good luck with anything but chain restaurants. There's that other one on Schaumburg Rd, El Meson I think ....ok.

My ex liked El Meson...I thought it was average at best.

I think there is a law or something that says the shittier the restaurant looks on the outside, the better it is on the inside.

I've been to Chuy's a lot because when my boss was in our NW Austin office there was a Chuy's 5 minutes away. I think it's more acceptable than Uncle Julios. But both are American food with Mexican ingredients.

It's not going to help you today, but for future reference: El Pollo Vagabundo directly south of O'Hare on Grand west of Wolf. Closed Wednesdays. You're welcome.

If you are going to EGV then Good Tequila's is excellent as well. When we used to live in the Mecca the wife and I were partial to Los Fernandez. Food has dropped off a little since they expanded and seem to focus on the banquet hall biz, but still very good.

El Meson blows.

Good Tequilla's or Tapalpa are average to above average. Either would be a good choice.

La Hacienda de Roselle (about 10 minutes south of Woodfield) is a place that many rave about - I think it is fine but not mindblowing.

Back when I lived in the Mecca, there was a place on Golf across the street from Binny's...I know it's closed, but it's sister restaurant, La Hacienda, is still open in Deer Park...what was the name of that damn place? I loved it...still hit La Hacienda on occasion.

I went to Mago at Roosevelt Collection in February. The selection of moles there was top notch. I recommend it if you're in the area for work or enjoy the theater there.
