Just pass on Mrs. Green's hot grits.

I have family in Memphis. The Rendezvous is the classic Memphis BBQ joint, but they feature a dry rub instead of sauce. It's not for everybody. My personal favorite is actually in the burbs. It's called the Germantown Commissary. Check it out: https://www.commissarybbq.com/

Hit up Corky’s. Memphis is a great town.

That place gets amazing reviews.

I assume you're talking about the Commissary. I'm ashamed to admit that, while the BBQ is good, the banana pudding is my favorite thing there.

Yep.

My family that live there love Interstate as well.

Corky's is good. Central is good. The Rendezvous doesn't have the best food, but it's kind of a good place to go, sort of like the Berghoff in Chicago. Not BBQ but Catherine & Mary's is a good spot for a nice dinner. Great breakfast sandwich at Sunrise.

I liked Corky's a lot. It's been years since I went to Memphis, so I'm having trouble remembering all the places I ate. I know I had some very good dry rub ribs somewhere and some blackened catfish that was also very good. I know we went to the Isaac Hayes place but it closed.

EDIT: Blues City Cafe, had some good barbecue there.

The Cotton Museum is really interesting.

Didn't make it there. [EDIT: I see now that it had not opened yet.] The Stax Museum was terrific, though.

Back in the seventies we had family there and we went to a roller rink and go-kart track. It was fun. You should look for that.

Central BBQ was the best I had there.

Lived in Memphis for about 5 months going to college. Didn't have a lot of money to go out and eat off campus but I would also say the Rendevous and Corky's are solid choices. Beale Street is a good time of course. You can see Sun Records. I think JORR mentioned the Civil Rights Museum. I never went but believe it would be good. Probably not a great idea if just the two of you but when I was in college there in the late 90s we would buy something called The Diver from a bar on Beale called Silky O'Sullivans. The drink was "The Diver" and the slogan was guaranteed to make you go down. Anyway it was essentially a one gallon bucket filled with unknown concoction of booze and multiple straws. It certainly lightened our moods after sharing a few.
