Best thing about that side of my family. Hard to find around town, but these little pastries are fantastic.

What town are we talking about? There's got to be at least 100 bakeries around that sell them.

Pretty sure Ugie lives in a box. These things are everywhere right now.
Only the Polish can make a celebration out of a glorified donut with not enough filling in them.

Most paczki are dreadful. I think they go stale in about one hour from the time they come out of the fryer.

I picked one up this morning in the French Market under the train station, which was pretty good.

Once again, I live in a bubble. I'm very much aware of how this negatively affects my pastry knowledge base.

Just an FYI before Dolphin gets here to set it straight: Today is Fat Tuesday, or American Paczki Day. Polish Paczki Day was last Thursday.

BTW, I "celebrate" both! (picked up a dozen from Olympia Bakery at 92nd and Ridgeland this morning) :D :D :D

Ugie, you poseur, listen to what Panther says.

I also celebrate both days and you could find them on sale in just about every bakery in the city and suburbs.

The paczki I bought today from Schlegel's Bakery on Touhy in Skokie were so overfilled that the first bite had the filling falling out the side, unlike spanky's cavernous cranium which is as empty as a whore's heart.

I'm willing to admit that my saying they were "hard to find around town" simply means "they were unavailable at the BP station I went to this morning to redeem some scratch-off tickets".

I am polish but do not care for jelly filled pastry. When's wodka day?

What's with this talk about jelly filled? The paczki I bought today were filled with fresh strawberries, whip cream, custard, chocolate mousse, blueberries and bannanas. You have to expand your horizons.

Whip cream is probably the only one of those I could get down with.

Even if price or proximity are favorable, I would strongly caution against purchasing your paczki's from an erotic bakery.

It is as difficult to find a polish pastry in chicago on paczki day as a handjob in ugie's sister in law's apartment

Dolphin got a handy from my sister-in-law in an apartment. Standard operating procedure, really.

Why can't older Polish people write the number 2?
