That is great, the best actually, but I don't think that counts as generic, despite the fact that Canfield's is nearly extinct as a brand.

Wasn't sure if it was considered generic or not. I need to to do my soda brand analysis a whole lot better.

I look forward to the day when this combines with your other soda threads and we answer the age old question "What is your favorite lesser known-diet-generic soda?"

Not sure if Wildwood is considered generic, but I didn't know they were still around.....I went to Ultra Foods the other day and there was a big sale display....44 cent for the 2 liters.....I picked up some Pina Colada, Pineapple, RedPop, and Fruit Punch.....outstanding.

I love the Redpop.

My favorite generic is Savalots Dr Pop

"Generic" should only apply to house brands, like "Dr. Thunder" or "Mountain Lightning" at Wal-Mart. I mean, Canfield's, come on, guys; that's just a small brand.

I'll second whoever said generic cola is bad. I was downtown on a hot day and rather parched, so I ducked into the Walgreen's on Michigan Avenue and got like a liter of Walgreen's cola for like 79 cents. It was wretched. Putrid. I almost threw it up. Then I still drank like four-fifths of the bottle because I'll be damned if I'm going to waste money.

EDIT: no one said this. I'm not seconding anyone! At least not here. Someone somewhere said no one makes good generic cola! God damn you, Mini Ditka.

Well, in that case, I like Walmart's generic pops. I remember back in 97 when I worked there, you could get a cold can out of the machine for 25 cents.

Is Jolly Good a store brand? What are they? At any rate, one time (early 2006, I want to say) I washed down a giant pan of Chinese takeout with an entire two-liter of Jolly Good blue raspberry soda. Jesus Christ did I ever abuse myself.

Jewels used to have a good Balck Cehrry under the President's Choice brand. In fact, after they stopped selling most things under that label, they still sold that pop. Now they have black cherry under their "Super Chill" brand.

Canfield's is part of the 7UP/Snapple/Dr. Pepper line of beverages, which is number 3 of the big dogs after Coke and Pepsi.

Probably about 15 to 20 years ago Jewel had a recent decent fruit punch soda.

Faygo Redpop in the glass bottles at Meijer - with cane sugar. Too bad Faygo's associated with a whole subculture of stupid assholes.

Off topic, but the Bears should be "royally" douched for going with el-cheapo RC cola instead of Coke or Pepsi. Was that move made for the fans (yeah, right), or is it because they fucked up the stadium deal and want to squeeze every nickel?

Fuck the McCaskeys, Ted Phillips, and that annoying PA announcer.

Yeah, that Jewel brand soda back in the day was great. I was pissed when it went away.

Canfields still makes 50/50. It's still a legit brand. However, their cream soda was THE best. Hands down...
Anyone remember Glen Rock Soda in the 7oz bottles?

Aside from Eagle foods soda and lemon lime way back in the day, I don't drink generic.

Even though Dr. Pepper is technically the Bears' new official soft drink this season, one of their brands happens to be RC Cola. The Bears actually sacked Coca-Cola in the offseason for a 5-year deal with Dr. Pepper, based in Plano, TX. Dr. Pepper, RC, 7-Up & A&W Root Beer are among the soft drinks now served at Soldier Field as a result of the new deal, plus Dr. Pepper is also a Bears' Hall of Fame sponsor under terms of the new deal.

This despite the fact Pepsi is still the NFL's official soft drink, and Pepsi is a sponsor of the WBBM/Chicago Bears Radio Network this season.

Dr. Pepper is the realness. I could drink a 48-pack of Diet Dr. Pepper in a week. I'm going to die of horrible, heretofore unknown forms of cancer.

Still, selling RC while the rest of the sports world sells Coke and Pepsi just seems so low-rent, so corner-cutting, so...Bears.

The Seattle Seahawks only have Jones Soda in their stadium.

Yup. It's because of Jewel generic that I can't really enjoy cream soda except for said Jewel generic.

I'll tell ya .... the 'Chill' brand of no-sugar soda (the clear stuff) would be really top notch except they barely carbonate the shit .... even the damned 'soda water' is under-carbonated, and that's the whole bleeding point of soda water.

Diet Dr. Pepper is the best soda in the universe and it's not close.

I don't know if this counts as "generic," but I went to college in western PA, where a rancid swill called "Cherikee Red" (yes, spelled like that) was available basically everywhere. It had a punny name, its packaging made it look like a particularly culturally insensitive brand of malt liquor, and it tasted like carbonated Robitussin. Low drinkability, maximum unintentional comedy. Behold:

Truly one of the all-time greats.

They probably got a better deal. Not sure it's worth taking a worse deal to keep a big brand. Doesn't have a real effect on anything, so might as well take the best deal.

I regularly drink their seltzer, and at .89 a 2L, it's not bad. Bubbly enough for me, and I got's to have me bubbles.
