Home made tortillas. Sitting in the Old Town Mexican Cafe in San Diego, enjoying some homemade tortillas. Every restaurant in the area has them (several sell them streetside as well to passersby). Fantastic. The question - where in Chicago? I live near Joliet with a significant Latin population, yet no fresh tortillas. Chicago must have them, yet I haven't run across any. Suggestions ?

So let me get this straight.

You're eating homemade tortillas....in a restaurant...?

Thx Jorr.

Bad ratio of smart-ass to useful...but what should I have expected.

Huaraches are sandals, aren't they?
I think I'll take a pass.

Not quite homemade per se, but there's a small chain called Pancerho's that has little balls of tortilla dough made up sitting there and when you order they toss one onto this press machine and in a couple of seconds there's your freshly made tortilla right there. As an added bonus, after they'd layered your ingredients into the burrito, before wrapping it all up they'd mix the shit up so it wasn't all beans or rice or sour cream in a bite.

Used to be one in Sycamore, but that died quick. I think the closest ones are, in order, Schaumburg, Rockford, and then Fitchburg, WI.

This is a great idea which should catch on.

Could not agree more. You ask for them to do that at, say, the great and wonderful Chipotle, and they look at you like you just shit on the floor.

Mixteco (Montrose and I think Ashland) has an old Mexican lady making them to order in the corner of the open viewing kitchen.

Majority of the smart ass comes from the same sources, all the time.
