Assuming Bono is Catholic he is eligible, as is any adult male Catholic. Although that would appear to be dead money. Pope Urban VI in 1378 was the last pope elected from outside the College of Cardinals.

Just saw on the news today that the real reason he is retiring is because of a scandolous expose on HBO regarding his part of the cover-up. I guess all reports of priest abuse went directly to his office before he became Pope.
