In my eyes, talking or texting while on a date, even if it is just a casual lunch/dinner with your wife is terribly rude. If I were single and a date brought a cell into a resturant and proceeded to talk/text on her phone, I would express how rude I thought that behavior was and walk away from the date. It's unacceptable behavior.

Well I do hope when you do talk and text you have a darn good spell check

This is all you have ......your guy posts about how he texts while dining with you at resturants and thats what you come up with? Maybe you should focus on the fact that Crystal Lake Hoffy doesn't find you interesting or entertaining enough to give you his undivided attention, so he chooses to text others while with you. That he looks for stimuli from other sources because you are clearly incapable of providing enough. Perhaps thats worth taking time to consider.

You ever consider his texting other people whilst at the dinner table or while we are out might be work related or a friend/former co worker is getting input on something related to their industry? Or maybe I am texting the sitter to make sure that our child is ok or that maybe I was concerned a family member who was traveling in bad weather got home safe?
Or better yet checking my phone to make sure we have enough time to catch our train home?

In his post he mentioned nothing of the kind. To try to change it now so it doesn't sound like he's bored by you is
I have not come close to making fun of mentally ill people.....except you.

Not real ambiguous. Seems real clear that it's a matter of being bored. Not at all about making sure anyone got home safe, or checking in with babysitters. Just bored . If you are okay with it though.....doesn't bother me.

where does it say that he is bored? How do you know what we are checking, who we are talking to, or texting? Maybe too when we are on the phones we are touching base with other people because we don't have a job where we can sit on the web all day or call into the radio because people with real jobs don't have time for that.
So please tell me oh wise one where it says he is bored with me?

I see nothing about him being bored.

The way that's phrased, Id say its a work thing.

You may be right. Perhaps I was reading that into his post. Or perhaps I wanted to read that into the post as I was upset about the crap RNM posted reguarding my late Brother and wanted to see that in his post. Only CLH can really say what he really meant and if he is calling/texting others because he is bored and seeking outside stimuli, I am quite sure he will not be saying so at this point. If it is work related, I think the calls can wait until the meal is over. I maintain that putting work ahead of your spouse is unwise and insulting. I get work calls in the evening, but I don't answer them if I am out to dinner with my wife. Thats our time. If you take a call from a babysitter thats one thing. You need to know the kids are alright. if it's from a close family member who has been ill, you might take it, but advise them that you will call back later, after determining that no emergency needs your attention. Myself, I leave the phone in the car. My attention is undivided. Whether I am with my wife, another relative or a friend, I don't want to send the signal that their company is not sufficiently important to gain my full attention. Common courtesy really. Although it may be becoming a bit less common these days.

Yes, RNM comments about your brother were pretty bad.

And your response was bad too.

Lot of bad going on.

Maybe both parties should just move on

Oh and that's great that you dont fall victim to cell phone addiction, but some people who arent doctors, are actually on call a lot of the time. So, I wouldnt rush to judgment on someone looking at their phone.

I have moved on. Thats why after some introspection, I realized I might have been reading things into Hoffy's post and said so. Perhaps you are correct about some people and their need to monitor their cell phone, but people managed to have meals without interrupting them to take phone calls for a long time, while still managing to do business. I think too often people today just lose sight of what/who are the priorities in their life . The caller can leave a message and the call can be returned after the meal. I can't tell you how many times I see teens and young adults talking/texting when they appear to be on a date. It seems a lot more prevalent with younger folks. Probably because they grew up in an age where cell phones have always been a part of daily life. I just think it's bad form.

If someone other than Steve voiced his opinion it would have either gone unnoticed or there would have been several people posting in agreement with him. But because it is Steve people go out of their way to disagree with him. It is just part of the board culture around here.

I think its pretty extreme to leave your phone in the car, but I agree with his overall point.

The only time my GF stops talking to me is when she's pissed off...and then it's for only ~5 minutes.

It seems many people DID agree with him.

Only RNM took issue.

The lady and I will have conversation which will stop abruptly when she sees something strange...her people watching skill are amazing. She manages to find the craziest shit no matter where we are...I just laugh my ass off.

Her personal favorite are people with their kids on leashes.

Back on point...when we are at dinner, there are many times where she will have her phone out and monitoring it...especially near month end, because it's the nature of her job.

I would bring a book, phone, i-pad and another friend to talk to if I got invited to dinner with Hoffy.

I have broken bread with Hoffy.

The discussion was enlightening and I learned a lot with my cell phone never being checked once.
