I am against a man hitting a woman unless he is being physically attacked and has to defend himself. What the bus driver did was retribution. I would have had no problem with him grabing her and throwing her off the bus. No need to punch her...

That's different. That's in the moment. She like spit on the guy or pushed him or something. He had to unbuckle his seat belt, stand up, give the "jail" line and then punch her. Not neccessary. In your case, you were in the midst of an attack. Defending yourself is the normal response...

Why is it okay to hit a dude and not a chick? If you're okay with violence then punch anyone you want, kids, babies, senior citizens, hockey players, baseball pitchers, ladies, or gents. I mean if you're worried, just don't punch them as hard I guess, but might as well own being a neanderthal.
