Even Google Employees Are Giving Up On Google Glass

http://www.businessinsider.com/google-e ... ass-2014-1

Quote:
"My Glass experiences have left me a little wary of wearables because I’m never sure where they’re welcome. I’m not wearing my $1,500 face computer on public transit where there’s a good chance it might be yanked from my face. I won’t wear it out to dinner, because it seems as rude as holding a phone in my hand during a meal. I won’t wear it to a bar. I won’t wear it to a movie. I can’t wear it to the playground or my kid’s school because sometimes it scares children."

Wait until it is seamlessly blended into glasses and they own the technology.

Even at $1100 a share this is a GREAT stock to buy. one day these guys could cure cancer, settle colonies on the moon, in a space station etc. The $$$ they have into R&D is amazing.

a share of BRK.A is worth about $175K a share! At one time it was $1000.

ironically, this might be the first year BRK.A doesnt match the S&P 5000

Changing of the guard

I'll get Google Glass when they create an app to read people's power levels.

try to find out who is producing the contacts. whoever puts google glasses in a comfortable contact, they will have a blank check from the military.

NEWSFLASH!: Google workers discover that people don't want to walk around with something on their heads that makes them look like morons.

also, we pretty much have no choice with these things; they're coming. remember when there was a time where you didn't wanna whip out your iphone on the cta cuz you were an easy target? yeah how's that going now?

same thing with the google glasses.... give it ~3-5 years and soon enough you'll look like an asshole/creep if you're not wearing them all over the place, much like now if you're the one person not buried into their cellphone on the train people glance at you like "ew why is that creep looking around at everything?"

I don't think so, sini. People who walk around with Bluetooth headsets jabbering into the air look like tools. A fully realized Google Glass or something like it would be a million times worse. I think as a society we can go only so far into being anti-social before there is a major backlash.

you do have a point there, JORR (say my name =). where i see these things being annoying is when cops start to wear them en masse within 5-10 years for the facial recognition stuff and beyond. in 2007 i wrote that cops would all have some sort of PDA/compact tablet that would be able to scan people's chips/RFID to pull up their name, information, recent whereabouts, recent contacts, purchases, etc..... i reckon these glasses would would allow that without having to whip out their cellphone/equivalent.

tho in a way you've gotta thank cellphones cuz they're doing that mark-of-the-beast thing that's holding off implantable chips. as long as the obamaphone movement gets up to proper computerphones they won't have to freak anyone out with implants because the modern computerphone tells you anything you could ever want to know about someone.... and thensome. i'm pretty sure if you've got ~$10-20 to burn along with a phone # you can pay private services to ping any cellphone # and get their location within ~5-10 yards, which is something only the alphabet agencies were able to do 10 years ago.

tl;dr = i look forward to one of the great tradeoffs for freedom being legalized weed, cuz holy shit i reckon everyone's gotta be looking at the bank colorado's gonna make off of this and want their cut of something that 90%+ of the purchasers are gonna do anyways. i wonder what the cartels would do in the lieu of en-masse legalized weed?

My technology sensibilities are basically preserved in the amber of 2006. I love my 16" desktop-replacement laptop, Vista, Soulseek, my Motorola Razr, and books made of paper. Google Glass is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of in my life.

whoa you use soulseek? i remember i was turned on to it when i heard aphex twin's then-forthcoming album drukqs was up around april/may 01 when the album had an ~october 01 official release. i was using audiogalaxy at the time (which jumped the shark when they started trying to sell people $15 t-shirts) and once i got my drukqs there i never turned back.

you get three guesses as to what my name is on there if you wanna troll through my file listings on this craptop. well it's either that or sinicalyptical Caller Bob.

also, i can vouch for the droid razr maxx / HD, and presumably the newest-gen droid maxx, altho the latest one has gotten rid of the SD slot so you can't have something crazy like the 40gb of storage i've got going on the razr maxx HD. i was a razr guy up until a couple'a crap replacement phones compelled me to take the computerphone plunge in march 2012, and once you get past the whole concept of privacy (i.e. just about every android app wants to know your phone calls, it's not just that evil jay-z magna carta holy grail app) they're properly made/engineered phones that will last you 3+ years if, say, the micro-USB/charging port doesn't crap out on you. the latest generation of maxx phones has wireless charging, of course =/

but if you ever go the droid razr/maxx/HD route, make sure to go maxx cuz that 3300mAh battery > the ~1700 that the original razor had and the ~2400 or whatever the HD has.... it's invaluable cuz i only had a droid razr for a month or so and that month was funny cuz i had to carry around charging cables wherever i went, which was supremely annoying. once i went to the maxx/3300mAh battery route i was never going back to a small/ish battery.

Napster --> Aimster --> KaZaA --> Limewire --> Soulseek since early '05 and still goin' strong, or at least strong enough for me to find 90% of what I want/need. I get all my classical and rare jazz from blogs.

That Google fiber thing is really going to fuck them up and when the Google glasses are renamed as G's and you dont see the bump on them, you will see everyone wearing a version of it when shopping. Maybe it wont be the slick version in the movie AI, but it will be the 300 pound mom in the house coat at WALMART who then has the same shopping habits at the glasses show he where everything is that she buys when she looks in the general direction. "coupon Glasses"

"hey mary, bon bons are on sale for the next 20 mins. 2 for 1" and watch her ass waddle over for them!

And while I think this stuff will easily happen and be really cool, its just a small fraction of what these guys are working on.

How is that one? Which Aphex Twin do I need beyond Richard D. James Album? That's all I have, but I love the beginning of it, then I get a little burned out on it. "4," though, all-time great album opener. Love the machine-gun drum sequence underneath the slow-moving pads up front, it's like a quadruple-time feel, almost.

They wont really be 10 min sales, but they will tell you it is a 10 min sale! When they know you are in the store.

the one thing I wish they had is the RF tags on products, so you can just bag your groceries as you shop, then roll out and you get a total the second you pull up to a checkout. No need to scan each item one at a time.
