I really have to wonder how true this is, when the guy earns 250k per speech.

Hasnt had the job for 2 years, not eligible.

Now, the question is why he needed to refi a $660K mortgage when he makes $250K a speech and if this guy isnt invested well, then we are all doomed.

To his credit, he always said the ability to refi and get mortgages is too tough for an average american and while the fed can suggest loosening credit and show the reasons why, they cant actually make the banks loosen credit.

Granted it's a bit dated but to avoid perceptions of conflict of interest I think these guys keep it boring.

From http://www.forbes.com/sites/afontevecch ... and-2-28m/

Quote:
Bernanke's Plain Vanilla Portfolio Worth At Most $2.3M While Other Fed Officials Hold Gold And Uranium

For one of the few men holding the monetary reigns of the world, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is a very basic investor. In a disclosure for 2011 released on Thursday, the Chairman declared that his assets can be worth a maximum of $2.28 million and that he refinanced his 30-year mortgage. Coming from academia, Bernanke can’t rival the portfolio of former financiers like New York Fed’s Bill Dudley and Dallas Fed’s Richard Fisher, whose assets are above $20 million.

In a disclosure to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, the Fed Chairman revealed he has between $1.07 and $2.28 million in assets, as of the end of fiscal 2011. Despite having unleashed a second round of quantitative easing in late 2010 and extended Operation Twist in 2011, Bernanke’s assets were essentially flat, sliding from $1.06 million to $2.31 million in fiscal 2010. (The OGE asks government officials to disclose a range for the value of their assets).

Most of Bernanke’s holdings are in parked in simple, and relatively safe, financial assets. The Chairman holds retirement accounts at TIAA-CREF and Vanguard, along with checking’s and money market accounts with SunTrust Bank; he also holds Treasury slips.

In terms of holdings, Bernanke can’t claim to be a sophisticated investor, despite having a deep understanding of the inner workings of the financial system. He also has a boring portfolio. Richard Fisher, head of the Dallas Fed, had about a million in gold (via the GLD ETF) and between $50,000 and $250,000 invested in uranium in 2010, according to CNN Money. He also owned more than 7,000 acres of land in Georgia, Iowa, and Missouri.

Fisher, whose portfolio hit at least $21 million after 22 years in the financial industry, isn’t the only one with a lot of dough in the bank. Bill Dudley, a former Goldman Sachs partner and managing director, had at least $29 million in the bank. The most powerful Fed president after the Chairman himself held stock from AIG and General Electric “while the Fed was negotiating emergency aid for the insurance giant and the broader financial industry,” CNN reported. Dudley sold the AIG shares in 2010 and GE in 2011 after the Fed ordered him to sell them at a random date in the future.

Bernanke’s income came from two main sources in 2011. His salary, determined by Congress, was $199,700. But he also received t least $150,000 from Pearson and McGraw-Hill for textbook royalties. Bernanke is the author of several books, including: Essays on the Great Depression; Inflation Targeting: Lessons from International Experience; Principles of Economics, and Principles of Macroeconomics.

At the end of the day, despite all his power, in terms of monetary policy at least, Bernanke is a pretty simple guy when it comes to his finances.

If he does (and I would be not be shocked) would the feds go after him with the same gusto as they did Martha Stewart and maybe Phil?

He has to have a stash somewhere. As much as he's helped banks there has to be one that is willing to do his loan. They make exceptions every day.

NO....

but let me state why going after Martha was good...obviousely inside trading is bad enough, but someone who is a media personality recommending everything from Napkins to Toilet paper, is the officer of a company and makes it very public about her involvement....we all know it has an effect on a stock price.

She was essentially pumping the stock price of the company she owned....and then starting selling it short. It's the lobistics scam from the Sopranos.

Yes, they made an example of her, no doubt, but it was making an example of a celeb to not endorse stocks....and then go and short it....while being an officer of the company. Yes, that is called Fraud.

I am sure he could get the loan, but I am also sure he didnt ask for help.

the $ 2mill is probably right for him, he knew once he was done, big money speeches, consulting, books are all out there for him.

I question many of the other fed guys and Euro finance ministers who can move the Euro or GBP 50 points with a harmless comment.

the guy would sit through 2 days of congressional meetings and these dumbass mother fuckers, who dont know shit about finance or the economy would drill him about the real estate market and how people can be left homeless. This guy never got mad and would explain to the congress men and women, that the Fed has nothing to do with that, but the House and Senate could do things to help those people out and he has suggested it. The most common response from them would be something like "can my people get any documentation of your statements?" and he would tell them exactly where to get them.....and the congressional idiots would say "OK, thank you no further questions"

That's fine.

He can burn with all the rest.

At least he can hang his hat on the fact that he condemned the United States to the same path as Japan.

Not just him but he was a huge part of setting that in motion.

There will be no lost decade. Did you forget unemployment was at 5.9% and the Dow is over 17000?
