Some live coverage on CBC: http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/ID/2396780283/

Still too early to put two and two together, but this seems like it's part of something possibly larger.

A few days ago, a couple of military officers were run over in Quebec just outside of Montreal. One of them died from his injuries the next day. The suspect was killed after his car rolled over fleeing the scene after which he was shot by police. His twitter account had the flag of ISIS on it, which while that doesn't mean he's directly connected with the organization, he was almost certainly influenced by their ideals. ISIS has called for attacks on Canadians and even suggested running people over with their cars (then again who haven't they declared 'war' on?).

Today, apparently a military guy "guarding" was shot point blank in the chest - "guarding" in the sense that two fellas are always standing there, but they are ceremonial only and thus unarmed save for a bayonet. This comes a day after Canada began sending their F18 fighter jets to fight ISIS in Iraq. Although this attack can be random, it does seem to be a targeted attack on Canadian military. Shooting a military officer at the War Memorial site was probably purposeful, considering there could have been a lot more people they could have shot on Parliament hill. This could be an attack with a statement about Canada's military presence abroad and their fight against ISIS (or just because some folks are just assholes).

tl;dr: Canada's possibly getting sucked in deeper into the ISIS conflict with first a hit-and-run deal a few days ago and now three shooters running around the capitol shooting and even killing at least one military guy.

I guess pretend people were running around DC shooting shit up at Arlington National Cemetery as well as the House and the city at large.

They call their dollar coins "loonies".

Presumed, not confirmed, to be Muslims.

I don't believe the short-or-long-term 'importance' of this series of events can be over-emphasized.

"Globe footage captures shooting in Parliament building"

(starts fairly quiet, then it's 'Yosemite Sam' time, so mind the volume)

So 19.16% of the US population was murdered in 2006?

Who made that chart?

Don't worry Dr Ken, only 3.2% were gun related murders. Must have been a lot of creative murderers that year!

Must have been the consequence-free murder plan bigfan was talking about.

Anyway my point was that tough gun laws do not stop weirdos and psychos from going nuts in buildings and schools. It was not to discuss murder rates around the globe.

There is some truth to that, but then what is the point of having any laws, if criminals aren't going to obey them anyway?
