I'm still disturbed by the episode where someone attempted to rape Edith. That was rough and they told jokes. You don't get that out of today's sit coms

that is probably the worst All in the family episode . but the caveat is it is a later season episode, and once Mike & Gloria moved out, the show jumped the shark so everything after that pretty much sucks anyways. There's a few decent ones here and there but for the most part, bad. But that episode is beyond bad

I give them an A for trying to do something creative. The show stayed edgy.

I was too young to determine jump the shark moments but I always hated Stephanie from the moment they brought her in.

yea Stephanie was awful. as was Joey. as was that hispanic maid

I hated Joey as well.

Edith dying seems to be the stepping off point for the show.

I dated one of these, once upon a time. The novelty wears off after a while. I look back now and still am baffled how it's even possible. Yes...it does get really messy.

I've only been married for 2 weeks. We have 5 kids between the two of us ages 15-22. Still averaging 3-4 a week.

I was actually trying to find that last week....when I was a kid, I saw her interviewed, and I thought she was critical of the Edith role, but I was only about ten, so who knows. However, I looked around a bit and didn't find much. Interesting, though. I'm laid-off for the summer, so I may check this out.

When I was a kid, Archie scared the shit out of me. He was a kinder version of my dad. I was a little freaked out when I learned he wasn't Catholic, though. I assumed he was, like half the people in my parish, Irish-Catholic!

Fwiw, Wikipedia cites his funeral as having been held in a Catholic church. I always figured that his character was old school Bridgeport, but that personally he himself was more like Fahey Flynn and Joel Daly.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I've seen the first dead Edith (after the fact) show in 25 years, if even then.

As for why no big lingering show, it was probably because she left after the season & couldn't agree to a new deal. Then as now, no contract meant a ham handed quick write off for your "former" character. $$$
