In a piece written for "The Nation" (whatever that is).
An obviously well-read person like you dosn't know what The Nation is? Really? I'm surprised. It's the country's oldest progressive publication, one that dates back to the mid-19th century. Historically it has embraced a liberal-left class politics, but over the past couple of years it has increasingly advocated a progressive vision based on identity politics. I referenced the editorial above precisely because of its publication in The Nation, as the column's appearance there confirms the hegemonic status of what I think is an obtusely rigid and superficial version of progressivism that will ensure further electoral defeats for the Democratic party.
In a nutshell they are a component in the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party. They were huge supporters of his movement and as Midget opined their continued influence will virtually insure the further electoral defeat of the Democratic Party. Bring on the liberal left Progressives in 2020 and watch and see how the country "embraces" them. Liz Warren come on down. I have watched that crowd lose election after election since 1980.
If you really want to see Clinton-esque platforms win on election day then you should vote for Paul Ryan or the next iteration of Mitt Romney in 2020. Except for a few issues im sure you'll like what you see.
With all due respect you're regurgitating talking points. Hillary Clinton ran on a platform in which stated unequivocally stated that she'd raise taxes on people making over $225,000. Neither Paul Ruan nor Mitt Romney ran on the same platform in that regard. She also made the case regarding job creation through rebuilding of America's infrastructure. That is not a Republican position either. She had a number of positions which differed from Republicans but she drew "Progressive ire" because she didn't promise to repeal NAFTA nor make promises about being able to make everything free.
The fact is she is done Clinton wing of the Democratic Party is done and in 2 years hopefully a Progressive savior will emerge to save the woe begotten DNC. Something tells me that Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton will still be blamed for ruining the party.
Now the candidate that everyone will have hoped for can run uninhibited and more than likely get their brains bashed in. I have seen this pie in sky types lose election after election throughout my lifetime and we will see in 2-3 years. Suddenly when they are not viewed as the opposition to the evil Clinton watch how a lot of that support dwindles.
