Just because the technology is more available than ever, it doesn't mean that kids are more technical. Understanding how to do more complex things with computers or understanding their parts takes a little research. Most kids will just google the answer when they need to. Curiosity is lost and most kids have no problem solving skills either. Best thing you can do is expose kids to as much as possible and hope they figure it out.
That all said, when I was 10 in the late 80's, I was completely addicted to playing games. But I also had a crazy drive to tinker, like replacing hard drives on computers or whatever. If someone looked at that kid today, they would say I have a problem, but back then, people thought I was some kind of genius.
