My wife rents a lot of cars for work, and the Dodge Journey was by far, her least favorite. Kia Soul and Hyundai Veloster are also terrible.

Both the Highlander and the Explorer have surprisingly little headroom. I have to pass on those as rentals unless only sedans are left. And all dodge journeys should be driven to some place in Nebraska and simultaneously set on fire.

Oddly, the Traverse / Enclave / Acadia have less leg room for the driver than the Equinox / Terrain.

In sad to hear that. I loved my Traiblazer and had the Traverse on my list to look at as I need room for 3 kids.

I was looking at cars this last weekend and learned that Hyundai is making a longer base sante fe. 6-7 passengers. I imagine you sacrifice rear storage but if it's for running kids around town it might work.

You and me are fellow gm men. Never had a bad one.

Not a big fan of the traverse though.

The Traverse with the bench seats or the bucket seats? I picked up a LTZ model around Christmas with the bucket leather seats and it is the Tits.

I still have my '99 S-10 that I bought new. It's just a third vehicle at this point, but she is a champ. 180,000 miles and running like the Energizer Bunny,

My parents got a 2014. Seemed a little underpowered. I think they redesigned it since then.

It's all plastic on a cookie cutter frame that costs them $2K to manufacture and they sell for $40K.

I'm sorry you're all poor and your companies don't pay for your vehicles. :P

I picked up a Ford Flex last month and have been a bigfan of it so far. You have to like the boxy look but there is great space on the inside.

The Flex has the most comfortable driver's seat I've ever sat in. I just don't like the styling.

Very polarizing design. Only complaint is a small gas tank. Car can only go 330 miles on a tank.

If you live near O'Hare, try making a rental for a Fullsize SUV for a weekend rate from Alamo. They don't always have one (in which case you just leave) but you can usually ask a porter and they'll find you one.

When I bought mine, I went on a 1100 mile weeklong driving trip in the Carolinas and Virginia, and managed to get one from National for the week. I was really able to put it through its paces and convince myself that I wanted one.

To another poster's comment, it is a little underpowered in the 4 cylinder model. But for driving on Chicago expressways, it's fine.

Great advice Chet.

That is how we ended up buying a Murano and a Pathfinder in 2014. The driver seat in the Pathfinder is the most comfortable I've ever sat in. I love the car. and my wife loves her Murano. Having said that, the the transmission was just replaced on my Pathfinder. If it wasn't under warranty, I would probably love it a lot less.

do you miss the symphony of miscellaneous noises under the hood while driving? we had 2 guys at work with trailblazers. put lots of miles on them but man alive were those things noisy.

These two statements contradict each other. Have you ever merged off of a ramp near 83rd or 95th street? Soiled underpants (band name?) are a very likely outcome if you do that too often in an underpowered 4 cyl model.

It's got enough for that. Go up a four mile mountain stretch to get to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, and it starts to get a little cranky.
