I thought I was pretty clear regarding what I see as the difference in military service.
You were clear that is your position, but gave no rationale or reason why someone serving 4 years in the army is any better, more valuable, more deserving of citizenship, than say a specialist in the medical profession working for the CDC.
I'm guessing by your prior two comments saying: 1) No non-citizen should be allowed to work for the government; and (2) Non-citizens should be allowed to serve in the military, that you'd be fine with a world renown specialist in viral infections mopping the latrine in Ft. Hood, but under no circumstances would you want her working for the CDC.
Seems like a well thought out position.
A civilian government job is a gift. Military service is a sacrifice.
Also, when we're discussing "government workers" in this context it seems to me we're talking about everyday jobs that could be done equally well by many of our unemployed citizens. We're not talking about highly-trained specialists with one-of-a-kind skills. If you want to put Dr. Oppenheimer on the government payroll I don't have an issue with that and I doubt dolphin or Reader do either.
