I disagree. For reasons good and bad we have set the level of personal freedom for high school kids much lower than it is for you and me. Selective outrage on this requires that perspective to judge whatbrights they are being denied.

The ultimate point is just like my diploma could have been withheld for mooning the crowd at graduation someone in Chicago could have their diploma withheld for refusing to fill out one college application with a guidance counselor. That's literally all they have to do and then show the acceptance letter. It took me longer to clean out my locker.

I wouldn't say everyone. It's a noble goal to try and get all high school kids to consider life after graduation.

There shouldn't be any correlation between obtaing a high school diploma and gaining an acceptance letter to a college or university. They are mutually exclusive and the acceptance or letter or lack thereof negates the fulfillment of any other requirement which pertains to graduating from high school.

This will not help a single student, but it will probably cause unecessary stress for MANY. And if they can just back out of it afterward, it's especially pointless.

This doesn't cost you anything and getting a diploma isn't a right.

There are a lot of kids poor kids that never think about their future. IF they plan on being a bum for the rest of their life getting this piece of paper won't change this. Since this really doesn't have any teeth being lazy would be the ONLY reason that you wouldn't get your diploma. Asking a child/family to think about/plan for the future is a great thing.
