Yes, you're right, a law meant to keep certain things out of the hands of minors, a type of person treated differently from adults almost everywhere else in law. You want to say someone can't give a gun to a minor, that seems prudent. Requiring background checks to give my gun to another adult is still ludicrously unconstitutional.

You might want to check with the Supreme Court because there are currently laws on the books that have been held constitutional which require a background check before one adult gives another adult a gun.

I had a friend like that. We could do whatever we wanted over there, we just couldn't drive anywhere. His mom drank a big box of wine everyday. She didn't care.

Yeah, Abramski specifically left in place the void of federal regulation of private firearms transfers and gifting. I can't find anything on the constitutionality of the laws mandating background checks for transfers in certain states.

As a 16 yr old kid, I fucking loved those parents. As a 34yr old parent, I'd kick that parent square in the nuts.

Another example of how Cook County gives zero fucks about firearm arrests.

Sunday, November 5, 2017 —A 23-year-old man has been charged with a felony after Cook County Sheriff’s Police officers found him with a stolen pistol in unincorporated Melrose Park, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 3, Sheriff’s officers responding to another complaint in the 2300 block of North Mannheim Road, learned that Jovantae Withers was in the area and carrying a gun. Withers was subsequently located nearby and found with a loaded 9mm pistol in his waistband. The gun had a full 14-round clip.

Further investigation found that Withers, a Hillside resident, has a previous felony conviction and does not have a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or Concealed Carry permit.

Withers was taken into custody and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a class 2 felony.

During a bond court appearance on Saturday, Withers received an I-bond and was released on his own recognizance.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.

SOME would have you believe you can't punish someone for a simple mistake.

Put all these people back in jail.

Access to an Air Force database that may or may not exist would have stopped this! Make all Americans register their guns!

so, as a parent, you would rather have your kids learn about drinking from their friends? who don't know what limits are? or would you rather your teenage kids drink with you the first dozen times or so.... so you can show them how to do it safely?

No. I'm not going to normalize a behavior I'd rather they not do. I'm not delusional enough to think that they won't ever drink but that doesn't mean I'm going to chill and have some drinks with them.

Thankfully my parents allowed me to try beer at an early age. Then and there I realized beer tasted like garbage so I never stared drinking. Had they let me try something that tasted good, like Bailey's, my screen name would probably be KDdrunkit.

What ages we talking here? You wouldn't have a beer with your 19 year old son?

In college age is a gray area. I would probably let him have a beer at a cookout if he wasn't going anywhere else. I wouldn't let him just go to the fridge and drink at will though. I'm talking about high school age. We would get trashed and go to football games... I don't want him doing that stupid shit.
