they are actually saying ma'am (short for madam) with a British accent. Here all along I thought they were calling her mom as a noble title like mother of the country or all mother or something perfectly British. Meanwhile they are just using some stupid moniker we would use for any old skirt.

I think it would be very cool if she just said that from now on she will be referred to as mum in the sense of a mother rather than mum as some incoherent pronounciation of madam. Old guard would be satisfied because they would still be calling her mum. At the same time she present an image that is both powerful and soft.
