I pitched 12-inch in my early days. I had a guy with average build that launched 2 HR's off me like I never witnessed in any game ever! Towering line drives,I tell you. After he hit the first one,I brushed back the next batter. It accomplished nothing since we were playing slow pitch, but my teammates giggled.
Sounds like you were playing a "ringer".
I was invited to play in a friendly 12" game with other neighborhood dads. They would also invite local current or retired womens fastpitch players to play as well, and it was pretty awesome trying to bat against them. (They would let the girls pitch an inning or two to change things up - nobody ever got a hit off of them. Not once.).
Anyhow a few years ago, one such college gal brought her "Uncle Tony" to play with us. Average-height guy, but had a very athletic build. Early-40's in age.
After Uncle Tony proceeded to smash every single ball 400 feet out into the black night, we finally discovered through the grapevine that he was an ex-minor-leaguer in the Rockies or Dodgers system (can't quite remember which one they said it was).
Man, it was amazing how much more powerful he was than everyone else, and we had some pretty big, strong dudes playing who played ball in HS, etc.
