My mom grew up 2 blocks over. She, my aunts and their friends never knew who lived there. I guess that it was an embarrassment back then. Rightfully.

It shocked me when this particular house came on the market years ago and they listed it as Al Capone's old home. That neighborhood has changed a lot over the years. My Aunt lived on 76th/Prairie. When I used to visit i tended to view it as a sort of getaway. These days whenever I'm over there I simply want to getaway if you know what I mean

What's wild is how many houses have secret vaults and passages out south from that era. Apparently Frank Nitti's guys had a couple of homes in South Shore, Chatham and Park Manor, all with them.

In a prior life checked out a 3 story home at I think 97th and Princeton. Big place with a huge steel sliding door to backyard. 1 inch thick sliding door. It was probably true based on the age of door and supporting old crap in basement, but why live there? Shady flipper of home stated it was a Capone bodyguard that owned it. It was kinda cool. But the flip job the guy did was jacked. No building permits, code violations everywhere, and a fresh coat of paint.

I always heard that his mother and brother that were the ones who actually lived there. But anything to make the walk to Deneen or Meyering Park shorter worked.

And the funny thing is that on getaways around there I once discovered a massive find of signed first edition Richard Wright and Langston Hughes books. If I had no ethics...

Why would it be an embarrassment? They cant help who lived there before them.

Back in the day, criminal activity shouldn't have been glamorized. Or lauded.

Please expound...

BTW, what do you guys know about this place?

The hood system exhaust is sticking out the window. I'm already on board.

Love that place. Grew up going there for years, actually made a stop by there not too long ago. There's a SCMASC (south Chicago mexican American social club) around the block from there that I frequent pretty regularly.

The Loncars are pretty well known on the East Side and South Chicago. Bobby is currently running for Aldermen in the 10th ward.

I doubt there is a home in this city that is fully compliant.
