it's going to be driver assist for the foreseeable future. the biggest problem is either/or... if cities kept the road lines and markings maintained and highly visable, we would all be riding in self driving cars right now. but that is a pipe dream, we cant rely on every town to paint their roads.

the only way i see it becoming feasible is a lot more processing power. more AI. that said, even if we put a super computer in each car, artificial intelligence simply isnt good enough yet to make decisions on what is a road and what isnt. its not too surprising either, it can be hard for humans to distinguish sometimes. especially in road construction or heavy weather.

well get there, but there will need to be big advancements in AI and processing power. If they can figure out how to make quantum computing portable then we willl see big strides, but we aren't there yet.
