Cheating is only appalling when it's done by corporations (to you) and governmental waste is only bad or should be tolerated...on what conditions? Just keep accepting their crap? You seem to have more than most. It's real easy for you to say waste is no big deal, chill 2-3 weeks is no big deal, the government (who created this mess and has made things worse) can continue to make bad decisions for everybody because you know mostly you'll be fine. This makes me more fearful of the government, their control, and their overreach because it's obvious the A) don't know what they are doing or they are doing this purposefully B) provide some of the shittest "help" ever and c) do not give a shit about rights. Your POV is they are helping isn't that nice? My POV is they are fucking us over, giving pittance shitty stuff, and telling us we should be thankful for it. They'll be asking for more after all this is said and done. It will be for our benefit, our safety, our community. I don't have much left to give and I'm certainly not benefitting from it. My point hasn't been gaming the system or who is "worthy or eligible".

Why are they offering 11000 people lunch, which is 90% more than usual, in a time of non crisis? There is food available in DG and surrounding areas. Offer and give assistance to those that need it, not everybody. But hey yeah they'll take care of us. It will barely cost anything.

The fact of the matter is there is no way to fully eliminate people gaming the system...from top to bottom. You limit as much as you can and go with it. Same for the southern boarder. That's why they have actuaries.

When my great great great great grandfather Pierce Downer founded Downers Grove in 1832, he did it with some guiding principles. He wanted his town to be a smorgasbord of people who needed free school lunches for their kids, people who didn't need free lunches for their kids but took them anyway, people who would complain about everything, and idiots that would elect Ron Sandack. When I walk up the driveway of some poor local yokel's house to visit our family grave site located their back yard, instead of pouring a 40 out for him, I'm just going to leave an Uncrustable and a milk that's a day from it's expiration date.

7 kids and one 18.5 year old drop out. All were within easy walking distance. Others felt compelled to stay at home for fear someone would be checking license plates or bicycle VINs. They'd be outed for being poor or stealing a couple bucks from a food line.

Plainfield 202 has about 28,000 students, most of whom are probably on par with DG students on the socio-economic scale.

Exactly 276 meals were served today, the first day of the service.

The outrage in this thread is fucking BIZARRE. Most schools wasted way more tax dollars on all of the salt that they didn’t use in the parking lots and walkways during this mild winter.

Yeah, it was just one example. I don't get the anger over providing sack meals to kids that live within a school's boundaries. I'm pro "letting kids eat twice per day".

All districts bid out to companies each year for the plowing/salting. There's been an AMAZING amount of salt going down the last few weeks anytime the temps could possibly drop below 32 with a hint of precipitation.....they gotta burn through it this year in order to charge for it next year.

Well, yeah, for districts that don't own their own plows/trucks. Similar to how districts that don't own their own buses contract out to a bus company.

It'd be tough to shovel out entire lots and driveways of multiple schools.
Especially if you have to lay down a 1" layer of salt with no snow in sight.

My buddy's dad was a custodian at Fremd, and they just had a pickup with a plow on it for the lots and they did the stairs and walkways by hand.

Was your buddy's dad in favor of kids eating when they couldn't go to school, even though they planned on eating at school during that time?
