It was me. I was dying and couldn't talk for a few days while having a silly argument with JORR.

Ok I guess I sorta recalled correctly. Hope you’re feeling better now! We need your snark around here.

I'm not 100% sure of this because I was only half-ass paying attention, but I think someone asked Dr. Fauci about that at one of the townhalls and he said that it was very unlikely you could have both at once.

After getting over the flu, I imagine that your lungs aren't in great shape.

Yeah, getting hit back to back wouldn't be great. I did hear on NPR that we are at the end of "flu season". That doesn't mean you can't get it now, of course. They also said this flu season was particularly bad. Makes you wonder if at least some of the cases were actually COVID.

I've read that the 19/20 flu season was more moderate overall than recent years. Although it was worse for young kids and the 40-49ers.

Welp China and Italy can’t be great examples. Possibly Singapore and South Korea are good examples, but these are very small, highly centralized countries. We are as decentralized as one can get with our federalist governmental system and fragmented medical community.

Our system is really good at some things and not well designed for others.

If you just look at our Federal Government, it does not have the ability to force through legislation say like the UK where the party in power is akin to Pelosi and the House with a majority that can makes changes at will.

But where are we good in a crisis like this? One state and local governments have the ability to provide customized regional solutions. The sheer size of our economy and dollar allows for near unlimited funds to be deployed quickly. The fluid capital markets allow for companies to quickly develop test kits and do vaccine research. Our manufacturers are retooling their factories to produce medical equipment. Fucking Fanatics is making masks instead of MLB jerseys in PA.

There's a good theory on why South Korea has been able to effectively tackle the problem. Being under a constant WMD threat from North Korea that extends to not just nuclear, but also bio and chemical, the South Koreans have developed some very stringent and well practiced doctrines on how to handle a biological warfare attack. While this isn't a bio attack from the North, the same doctrines and practices can be applied to a naturally occurring pandemic so the South Koreans simply put those plans into action.

I was listening to a stand-in for Rush the other day and the guy talked about how Taiwan dealt with the virus. As you all know, China and its one China policy poses a huge threat to Taiwan. What the guy basically said was that Taiwanese intelligence got very early information that the Chinese had a virus problem and also that they were going to try and cover it up so the Taiwanese stopped all travel whatsoever from China. They also know how the Chinese would try and used the pandemic to their advantage. .

That is entirely possible and may be the same kind of thing that Taiwan did based on its fear of China.

That sounds like my daughter - she tested positive for Flu A. It was a mild fever and sluggishness initially but the cough persists.

I had a cough that wouldn't go away for the better part of a month. Figured it was some kind of bronchitis and as such, very little I could do about it. The symptoms slowly degraded until I could convince myself I had the 'Rona (persistent cough, shortness of breath, "sluggish" feeling), so I talked to a doctor and they suggested it was a lingering bacterial infection. After 5 days of prednisone and just finishing my course of doxycycline, I'm back to about 85% operational strength.

A cough that at one point had me scared to try to take a deep breath is now a passing nuisance.

That's what one of my coworkers and her husband have had since Christmas. They are both 90% over it but can't clear the last 10%.

I wonder if I had it? We came back from the Dominican Republic on Feb 13. At the airport there I was fine but by the time we got home I was not feeling well at all. Spent at least the next 16 days coughing and hacking up gallons of green goo.

During all that I had a few bouts of chills but little fever. Normally I get very few colds and when I do they are mild and last just a few days. So who knows?

That's a real problem that a lot of us have faced. Namely a flu of some sort with symptoms that we are used to. My wife went through and is still encountering the same kind of thing. I know that they say that there shouldn't be a lot of testing for the China virus but I think that they are saying this because they don't have enough test kits or whatever to do it. This frustrates the shit out of my wife and I also. But going forward I think that they should be doing more testing if only to reassure the public on whether or not they had this shit. And there are also some questions that haven't been answered such as can you get this stuff more than once and if so how soon and will if be more or less serious? Will those who have had had have an immunity against it in later round?

I know whatever my wife had really knocked her down for a couple of weeks and that is not like her. I think that she had the virus but the American health system was not prepared to deal with it when she got it. I think that we were lucky that she got through it but even now, she is weakened by the experience.

Violence? Against who? Its no ones fault except China. Who are you going to take it out on? Yeah, some people are scared but scared of what? Just stay away from people for awhile longer and this shit will work its way out. Worry about what some of the dip shit things that public officials want to do in crises. This thing has exposed the strength of some people and the weakness of others and the stupidity of others. Some of these dipshits early on stoked fear in the minds of the public like this shit was the end of the world was at hand. Then you had idiots on the other side saying that this was just a big lie. And on both sides of this were opportunists who sought political advantage both ways.

This will pass. In the meantime, I'm enjoying my work at home and making money on the stock market's reaction to all of the shit. Got a target point in mind where I sell out and send the checks to my kids. And with the mortgage rates going down, the kids could really use that money to help buy a bigger home in one case and repay and refinance in another. I think that I'll refinance also next month. Good stuff.

Well, if you coughed on someone a year ago you were probably risking a violent confrontation. I don't think that's changed.
