Class lists came out today. The class bully/degenerate is in my son's class. What's the best way to deal? Any stories you guys have that relate, post em.

I think bullying is a little overly stated nowadays.

It seems being not super nice and friendly to everyone = bullying. That's now how I understood it.

Anyway, it does suck. My daughter had a little jerk who was a few years older then her in daycare who would be friends with her one day and mean the next. I tried to tell her to avoid but she's a little young.

I really just want to beat the parents ass but Im sure there are laws against that

Avoidance of idiots is probably a good thing to teach kids early on

Depends on age I guess and if there is a history of it. If it were my 13 y/o son and its a carry over from last year or something mmm. Walk up first day break his nose take the suspension and be free a life time.

i dealt with bullies throughout my school life. i think the best advice is to try and avoid them as much as possible; if they get in your face, just laugh along and let them self destruct. eventually the bad ones will expose themselves and get expelled anyway.

Only dealt with one person who ever bullied me. He was my best friend in 2nd-5th grade and then turned on me.

I pretty much just ignored him. Eventually they just get bored if you don't give them the time of day. I always had friends who stuck up for me anyway, so he quit once he realized it wasn't making him popular in the least.

Many years later, he approached me at the community college we both attended. He apologaid and said he was pretty much an idiot. I agreed. He is now a school teacher.

If they get physical with you, kill them with kindness. Make it seem like the ass kicking doesn't really bother you. Also, make sure teachers and principal are aware of what's happening if it gets out of control.

3rd grade. This kid gets into 2+ fights per year. His dad has said it's okay for him to fight and encourages it. the school flips his card and what not but big whoop. He's huge, gotta be about 4'9 and will pick on anybody.

He is in the same hockey league as my son. I saw him get kicked out of a practice and one one of the parents on the same team says it happens every few months but he always does stuff at practice.

He got into it with my son in 1st grade and we haven't had an issue since. I think mostly because my son laid him out. I made it known how I felt and I think my son was able to avoid him and the teacher could stop it the other times.

New year, they know the kid is an issue. I want to make it known again but don't know if I should or how to go about it.

3rd grade is awfully early to typecast someone. If we are talking someone in high school or even middle school that has hit puberty and is still a fuckhead then so be it but if its 3rd grade they are probably just imitating someone at home and the dad sounds like an asshole so you are going to have to kick his ass.....or bring in John Cena for an assembly.

This kid is a shit and there are no consequences to his actions. Bet you a dollar he's the same way in a few years.

I don't give a crap if I'm typecasting this kid. He has a history of issues, so does his dad, and I don't want my kid to be involved. What is the point where you say okay enough is enough you can't behave this way. 8-9 is old enough to know better and because of his size he can hurt someone.

I think it's awful that people have to walk away or ignore it and nothing is done. i think it is completely sending the wrong message. Why is it okay for this kid to act the way he does? Gmafb!

I'll talk to the dad. Give me his address. I'll convince him to straighten out his kid. I'll make him an offer he can't refuse.

The kid's behavior is absolutely a direct reflection of his father. There's no doubt. The Dad likes the kid being a bully cuz the dad was a bully as a kid. More than likely the Dad is a bully as an adult.

He's a pretty big dude. Has screamed at 2 women, once on the playground and one at hockey. I only saw one and heard about the other. I'm not afraid of him though! Thanks beardown!

You would think the father's in Spaulding's generation would be beyond the "Be an ass hole, tough guy" way of teaching their kids. They are probably slowly dying off. But a couple will filter through the next few generations until they don't exist.

If you kid laid him out once, let him do it again.

Be an asshole all you want, but you can't be putting your hands on other people. Can't trip people on purpose or intend to injure them. That's all I'm saying.

Feels dirty though, its not right, and i dont want him hurt either. Such a fine line to walk and the school can then pinch him for fighting. It puts him and me in such a bad position. He was so scared when he came home that day.

I was bullied a little as a kid.

If you don't stop them now they'll grow up to be B&B producers.

Challenge the other kid's mum to have a go:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ldren.html

or arrange for your daughter to fight the other kid in front of half the school:

http://youtu.be/G9chmFG50E4

or just let nature take its course. It's not like a couple elementary age kids would do any damage to each other in a fight.

Two of my friends moms had a fist fight back in the day in our neighborhood. Their boys had gotten into a couple times over a couple weeks and they started fighting over who was at fault and next thing you know they both had black eyes.

i went from popular in 2nd grade to bully in 3rd and by the time i hit 5th grade i was a complete "fuck this place dont talk to me" loser. well not really, but i do remember hating nearly every moment of school, just going through the motions... and that lasted for like a decade and a half. i remember the first night i spent in jail didnt seem any different then sitting in a class. only picked on a few times during school days, as most people thought i was crazy. rightfully so, i always pursued the illusion of insanity just for the hell of it. then i got a man job at 18 and life turned out ok. still not where i want to be financially, but otherwise i got no complaints.

When I was about seven or eight I got into a fight with a kid and got the best of it. The kid's dad came over to talk to my dad about it. I was scared shitless when he came to the door. The guy wanted to talk about our fight, but my dad told him he doesn't get involved in that kind of stuff. The guy was surprised and started to get a little angry, but my dad told him, "Look, you and I are going to start arguing about this and we're going to hate each other forever. In the meantime, our kids are going to be back on the block playing together by tomorrow afternoon and make us look stupid. Sometimes you've just got let them work things out themselves. Now, do you want to have a beer or what?"

Well, they had a couple beers at our basement bar and by the time the guy left his kid and I were friends again and running around the alley together.

This same thing happened on the Brady Bunch, didn't it? Wasn't Peter getting bullied, and then it turned out the bully's dad was a dumb bully too? I don't remember how they resolved it, though. Maybe Alice punched him out or something.

Seriously Spaulding, it does suck. I have a second-grader and I'm sure I'll be facing this sooner or later. I wasn't "bullied" as a kid, but I was always the runt or whatever, and never would have stood up to anyone. That makes it hard - how can I explain to my kid how to handle something like this, when I don't really know how to handle it myself? But yeah, just keep in close contact with the teacher and the principal, and they should be able to help with it. More and more schools are becoming very keen on stopping this kind of thing.

Nothing you can do but let it play itself out. Ask you boy every week or so how things are going with the kid. If there is a slight hint of trouble, demand action by the school. Unfortunately you have to be a little reactive. I don't completely agree with Joe's fantasy world scenario but you do have to start it with your boy working it out himself.

If your kid is really smooth, have him create a coalition of those picked on and gang up on the kid.

Anyway, I'm sure the teachers have been warned that you are "that mom" and are expecting a call for a meeting by the end of the first week.
