Looking more and more that this will be another dud and the heavy stuff will miss us. More like 2-4", not the 6+" they were initially projecting.

Yeah this storm really went from sugar to shit real quick. 4" at most here in the SW burbs, maybe 6" in Indiana. Other parts of the area are going to see 2-3" at most.

Enough to screw up the commute tomorrow AM, which seems worse than tonight's will be, but still nowhere near as bad as things looked 24-36 hours ago.

The weather weenies over-hyped another snow storm.

Do you know how they forecast winter storms and snow estimate, Bob?

It's this fucking simple, if it's in the mid-30s it's gonna most likely rain not snow, which is exactly going to happen. I posted that 3 days ago if you look up.

Here's the game, the weather fa.gs that have these Storm Tracking websites/Facebook pages, know that hype sells. Hype gets likes, so they overreact to everything and predict the worst. Then when it doesn't happen they make a sorry ass excuse that the "pattern changed".

This is not a universal truth.

And you didn't answer the question, Caller Crest.

That seems to be true more often than not.

It's probably more erring on the side of preparedness. But Bob is right, as usual. How can you forecast an inch of snow today at 37 degrees? Does Chicago snow defy physics?

Nardi, my belief is they are somehow so thirsty to have a big juicy event for ratings they blow any chance of snow etc out of proportion.

Because even at 37 degrees, its very possible that snow can fall, be accounted for, and melt where the full inch does not remain on the ground.

If you want to side with paste eating Bob, you go right ahead.

"expect an inch of accumulation"
Seems straightforward to me. It won't accumulate 1 inch by nightfall.

So straightforward that you change the cutoff of "today" to nightfall. An inch of snow very well may fall in some areas by 11:59pm tonight.

"Of accumulation" is the key. It could snow like crazy for 4 hours, but if it all melts, there's 0" of accumulation.

So when the forecast has sections that say Today and Tonight, they mean today is to 11:59?

Looks like the "weather weenies" at the NWS had it nailed once again.

Also, the Winter Storm Watch goes until tomorrow at 6pm. So while it seems like not much now, there is still 30-32 hours left of this storm.

Somebody tell the paste eater that the temperature on the ground isn't the same as it is at 2000+ feet in the atmosphere as the precipitation falls through the clouds.

No one is saying it can't snow at 37 degrees. It just CAN'T accumulate.

That depends on the rate of snow and the temperature of the ground. If there's plenty of frost in the ground and heavy enough snow, of course it will accumulate.
