It looks like a nice job of wrapping that unit up, probably not done by the a-hole homeowner. Did you call him back there to ask if it looked odd, or walk back up front to leave and tell him to call back after he removes the cover and tries again, or just set his house on fire?

Thankfully, I have multiple disconnects for the compressor power, and my wife cannot figure them all out or ours would have been run like that...

My building has a system that has to be converted from heat to air every spring and then back in the fall. It's not something that can simply be done with the flip of a switch. So a few weeks ago when we had that one 70 degree day a bunch of goofs started crying for the air conditioning. They pestered the engineer so hard that he converted against his better judgment. So when it was 45 last week I sat in my apartment with my teeth chattering.

Our 3 year old thermostat just went out a few weeks back. Tech guy said I'll be over tomorrow at 4 PM. Called him at 530 PM and asked if he was coming. He apologized and said the owner was supposed to have called me to say he would be late. I told him no biggie, just wanted to check if he was still coming. No need to start berating anyone. I just don't understand people's lack of civility.

I've had the same AC for 31 years. Never used a cover. The only issue was a freon charge it needed once. It was cleaned once a year by our AC guys and now they don't do that under contract because it's so old.

you aren't even supposed to cover the entire AC unit. it traps moisture which is never good. if you cover it its just to keep leaves and crap getting in it during the fall. and you are just supposed to cover the top. our AC unit was under a maple tree with the whirlygig seeds so the previous owner had a grey piece of siding he strapped to the top of ours. it was put in in the mid 80's and still running.

I have a leak somewhere. My guy had to come and fill it with refrigerant or whatever late last night (we weren't home over the weekend)


When he bitches about working long hot days, I just tell him if he wasn't so stupid he'd be a doctor. Then he tells me to kill myself. We're good friends.

He should put in some leak freeze then. I did that at Doug's. Was putting in a pound a year or so and put in leak freeze a couple years back and now it hasn't needed refrigerant for a couple years.
