Perfect timing! An email from my Bro_in Law to me and other 3 coaches.

"Guys, I know you try your hardest to coach the kids, but I think it would help if you let some of the kids pitch to the other kids during practice. As we saw Saturday, some of the bigger kids throw harder than you guys do during practice."

This from a man who never played 1 inning of organized baseball from Tee ball on up and never owned a glove until I gave him one 2 years ago so he can play catch with his son. Didnt know how many innings are played and has less than a decent grasp of most of the rules of the game.

You can only imagine how 2 of the other coaches, who are the main coaches and each have a son on the traveling team responded to it. Of course they didnt respond to him, but to me with---

"Next time your brother has a baseball thought, tell him to call his wife..."
"I try to like that guy, but he makes it so damn hard."

Is your brother-in-law in charge of a large company?
Maybe he is just used to calling the shots??

Can you talk about his brandish behavior with your sister?

Just got back from practice.
Lots of good hitting for the most part. No injuries.
Also lots of talk about pee and wrestling.

How much are machines and are they portable? heavy?

Portable enough to roll in and out of the towers and over to the batting cages. Probably run $6-700. Nice units that can adjust speed for different ages and usually one upgrade during each season. That way one high school kid can ump the game and feed the machine without any protective gear

All of our teams are given one treat ticket per player after each game- gets them a hot dog or pop or pizza slice or candy, etc from the concession stand- we got the email this spring that the stand now offers meal deals and is carrying Passaro's pizza- voted the number one pizza in all of KEffectiveland! :D

Couldn't your bro in law just ask you to throw harder in practice?

I dont get how someone who chooses to pass up the oppurtunity to coach/help out and then feels like they should have input to the coaches

I know its common, but its really stupid. If you care so much and have things to teach, then volunteer, if not, then support the team and leave the coaching to....the coaches

Exactly. I have had to deal with these parents several times and I have nicely as I can told them if you want to coach you should have said yes when the director was calling around looking for coaches.

Id flat out ask them to help out on the spot, if they suggest something.

Like "We could use a baseball mind like yours around the team, practice on thursday, see ya there?"

If its kid pitch during the games, the kids should pitch in practice, at least sometimes. That way you get practice pitching, and the kids get used to hitting pitches thrown by a kid.

The guy definitely has a point, but he could have pulled a coach aside and casually mentioned it instead of emailing everybody.

It would be a bunch of Cubs fans who think the results on the field don't matter as long as everyone there has fun. Do you take the kids to a bar afterward and sing too?

kids pitch 50% of the time in practice. cant have them pitch all of practice only have 1 hr. would never work.
in games they only pitch 3 of 6 innings now.
hard enough to keep them awake now.
kids dont hit kid pitching. its a k or walk most of the time.

My league is on the southside, so we deal with a lot of people running on the field and we all go to the next town over's T Ball games and root against them.
