Singling out a Magary column as a column the audience specifically isn't engaging with just shows you how full of shit they are.

Especially considering that column was actually about the NFL.

They're also using homepage views in their page view number instead of solely article pageviews, so they are deflating the percentage.

That being said, I'm sure their sports articles generate way more backlinks and therefore large amounts of traffic. Places like BCB, Bleachernation and other small, local, targeted blogs post blogs aggregating more major sites' top stories and pass it as content.

Here is my question, do workers at Deadspin's sister sites join in or do they do the smart thing and shut-up and keep writing?

I think it's obvious. AV Club, The Takeout, Gizmodo, Jalopnik, Kotaku, and Lifehacker will keep on as usual. The Root may celebrate because a bunch of over-privileged honkeys are out on their asses. Jezebel may join their sisters in solidarity, or it will be 2 weeks before they realize anything happened because the new issue of Cosmo came out.

Truly bizarre to me that someone would apologize for or be ashamed of being a capitalist. It’s like saying you are reluctant to admit the world is round.

I think this was the underlying problem and I think this sentiment is shared by MANY

Quote:
My income went down a year ago and I was profoundly saddened by that fact. That’s not just because I wanted more money to buy more shit, but because I felt as if my work, and therefore myself, were less valuable spiritually because I was less valuable monetarily.

I’m willing to allow just a tiny bit of concession to folks with families to support but that statement is about something a lot more personal than whether capitalism is good or bad. Even if Drew doesn’t seem to realize it.

MANY are beginning to realize today's twisted version of capitalism revolves around privatizing wealth and socializing costs. We're starting to see the costs and it's not pretty

That’s nonsense of course. Jeff Bezos wasn’t born rich. Wealth isn’t privatized in capitalism. It is in other systems.

My initial post was not very clear and confusing.

What I'm trying to say is capitalism is twisted. MANY do not feel like rules of the game are observed. The benefits of capitalism are consolidated into the hands of a few and the negative externalities are spread or felt by the least fortunate.

But that’s only a viewpoint that can be had due to the benefits of capitalism. If you don’t think you, I, and almost everyone we know has benefitted from living in a largely capitalist society then I don’t know what to tell you. The data is extremely clear on this. Because of capitalism your kids will grow up far better than you did even if they aren’t middle class like I presume you currently are and were raised as

The worst thing you could ever do to the poor in this country is to help turn us more socialist.

I'm not saying we aren't fortunate for capitalism. The author admits this. But it's not a perfect system and it's fine to reflect on it's weaknesses and how one may be feeding into its negative outcomes.

Fair enough. It’s a strange lament though.

I dunno. I can easily see why some guy looks around and evaluates whether his personal consumption enabled by the economic system he operates within is worthy of all the abuses and externalities that are created.

It's OK to feel shame.

Very much disagree with that. I don’t understand why someone would feel shame for benefitting from a system that benefits everybody. And capitalism does benefit everybody. It lifts up the poorest in society and that’s been proven over and over and over and over again.

The primary goal of capitalism isn't to benefit everybody, it's to maximize profits to shareholders.

Of course but I’m talking about the results, not the goals. The goal of communism and socialism is to benefit everybody but the reality is it benefits significantly fewer people that capitalism ever will.
