Silly hill to die on, disagreeing with the owner or editor mandate to "stick to sports". Easy enough to comply with that edict and still inject your writing with whatever SJW interstitial thoughts you want. Bill Simmons masqueraded as an ESPN sports writer for a decade; and maybe a third of his average column was actual sports content. The rest was 90's/reality TV references, super-thin movie analogies to sports and stories about his college buddies. People would write in to complain and Simmons would use their letters as a jumping off point/excuse to delve further into non-sports topics.

Plus weren't they part of a network of blogs, some more appropriate for their non-sports thoughts? If you wanna blog about non-sports topics, do it on one of the other sites. Or develop a freelance relationship with HuffPost or Medium or wherever SJW writers congregate nowadays.

if the 20 paragraphs of fireplace analogies isn't the first clue that perhaps writing on the interwebs is not going to garner you much success in life, i'm not sure what will.

These Deadspin writers are just proving how dumb they were. Guess what? I have quit a job before. Do you know what I did before quitting that job? I made sure that I had an even better job offer signed and accepted.

I can revisit this thread in a month and I doubt we'll find more than 1 of them has been given something full time. Shockingly even Drew Magary is stuck freelancing. :I would've thought he would have a permanent job right now while everyone else would be where they are at. It sounds like Barry and Laura should've taken Portnoy up on his offer.

Will Menaker would spend forty minutes calling this guy The Fireplace Dipshit and everyone on Twitter would be following his lead if he weren't someone who's safely and comfortably In, someone who wrote for a publication that was In and is now being thrown a life preserver by another place that's In.

He was actually a decent food writer. Then he got pissed off that Trump won, and he went to snowflake land.

Give him another year and he will either be a prepper or kill his family in a murder-suicide and blame it on Peter Theil.

They can obtain jobs. They're too stubborn or proud to do apply for positions other than blogger.

The only job they are qualified for is Starbucks barista.

They could become Amazon workers or teacher aides. That would also give them more content to write about.

I know you wanted a non- fat latte but I didn’t feel like making that . I made you an Americano instead . Deal with it .

If this twitter account is any hint, it looks like not one of them has even gotten freelance scraps in the last 5 days

I guess they'll be eating Spam on their Christmas tables.

Cross SB Nation off the list of places to go. Deadspin really was the height of millennial hubris. I have had one job where I really hated my boss and wanted to quit. But I made sure to have another before I left.

 Yeah it’s tough to see a bunch of Gen Z / millennials with over-inflated opinions of themselves and their “ work” quit their jobs in a hissy fit because they didn’t want to do what their boss told them to do and figured the world would beat a path to their keyboards to read their Pulitzer quality woke takes on ( what’s supposed to be anyway ) sports , finding out no one cares to read their dreck after all.

I was reviewing this real estate firm yesterday that had less than 100 employees but nearly 4,000 agents. It made me think of that California law. There is quite a battle in labor law with employee classification. And I understand the whole benefits and workers comp thing. But the U.S. has generally had a much better job market than Europe countries because of the flexibility in the system.

It is sad that those freelancers lose their jobs over the bill. And it’s not like Vox is the Koch brothers doing it to score political points.

The gig economy sucks(for workers) but you can't fight it like that.

AB 5 doesn't even make sense for the taxi industry in California. Who you would think would be behind legislation aimed at kneecapping ride-sharing programs.

Lorena Gonzalez sponsored AB 5. She's an activist State Assemblywoman from the San Diego area who makes no bones about attempting to legislate for the entire country from Sacramento.

Do like that she literally tells anti-vaxxer nutters to STFU and sit down:

Gonzalez really pissed off Deuce Bigalow:

Finally! An ex-Deadspin writer got something published for the first time in a week.

Oh... it's just Drew Magary's weekly funbag. Disregard.

It looks like I was wrong in my prediction, I had previously guessed that at least he would've found full-time employment by now. Looks like he hasn't.

To be fair though, he is probably the only Deadspin writer with actual savings

So did Lauren Theisen.

It was announced 3 days ago so I gotta give Ogie credit he really isn't obsessively following Deadspin alums after all

Suspended negotiations to resume Deadspin with the union and is moving Deadspin to Chicago. Now that is hardball.

Meanwhile, 2 1/2 months later only 3 of the losers have gotten a full time job. I don't think those media companies are looking to hire the hacks
