That's horrendous customer service. Good luck staying in business giving your customers ultimatums on situations the company fucked up on.

I agree but as long as the fares are priced right, people will still fly them. People still fly Spirit for god's sake.

Think about it, ok an $800 voucher. And you have to use it in 1 year! That's right between only 80% enough to cover a Hawaii trip and 3 times the cost of a quick trip to Vegas. So either I use it to take my Vegas trip, do first class and still probably never use the full voucher, or I feel obligated to get my money's worth and and still dishing out a couple of grand for the Hawaii trip, that I may not have wanted to take to cover the fare difference and hotel.

sure, but the difference is, it's reasonably forseeable to expect a passenger in that situation to act like that. United knew this before the incident.

Its the eggshell plaintiff we learned about in law school. You take people as you find them. There are people out there who break easily, doesn't make you any less liable when you hit them with your car.

Same theory applies here. Everyone knows that some people get crazy when they are on a plane. Everyone knows that asking people to exit a plane they are already sitting on can get people very upset. Taking that one step further, everyone knows that telling someone they lost a lottery and they have to leave a plane can definitely lead to some out of proportion responses from some passengers. United created this situation 100% by themselves, they purposely put a plane full of passengers in a situation where some of that crazy can come out. They can't turn around and act surprised when in fact the crazy does happen. I don't think you can say the passenger acted like a dbag just because he responded poorly while being victimized and beaten by the airline.

If no one bites at $800 does that mean its now ok to call in the gestapo and start dragging people down the aisle? We already read about Delta offering up more money to their passengers in similar situation.

I doubt a jury is going to look too favorably at United after the plaintiff's attorney puts forth the argument that United decided it would be more beneficial to United to drag people off the plane as opposed to trying to sweeten the pot. I don't think its at all reasonable to go from $800 to shock and awe without first trying $1000 and then even more $$. I would think the offer would have to get up towards $2000 before people on a jury started to side with the airlines right to remove a passenger in that situation.

Keep in mind that this is 100% United's own doing and the burden of fixing the situation was on them.

I think 4x the ticket price is reasonable. If you start doling out $2K every time this happens, people will just hold out for $2K in every scenario. The guy being dragged out makes it a bad look but that fool chose to act like a 3 year old.

If anything this sets a base for United. We will offer ~4x the ticket value and if no one bites you're running the risk of getting involuntarily chosen. Might make people think twice as the announcement is being made.

Sorry, but this is 100 percent on United. You don't drag a guy off the plane. Either you don't let him on in the first place or you figure out a way to get the crew to their destination another way.

I mostly agree with you, but it's not 100% on United. If the guy doesn't act like a fucking two year old we aren't having this conversation.

They offered him compensation to get out of a contract. He said know. So the answer if to smash his face into a seat and drag him out? That's not very libertarian.

Yeah, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. I told 'em not to touch the alarm... but they touched it. If they hadn't done what I told 'em not to do, they'd still be alive.

Would it make it worse they kicked him off to put employees on? That seems even more egregious to me but I only play a lawyer when responding to JLN.

victim shaming at its finest right here. This is 100% on United, no other way for an intelligent person to look at it.

Did you see the video? That guy deserves to be shamed.

I already said I agree United is at fault, and fucked up pretty bad here. I'll leave the legal stuff to all of you. But that doctor looks like a ridiculous douchebag in that video, no other way for an intelligent person to look at it.

It really is. You can take the liberal approach of feeling sorry for the victim, or you can take the right leaning "play by the rules of capitalism" angle as well. Either way, United is the douche.

I get what you are saying but he wasn't beaten until he refused to leave the plane and even then at that point he was ignoring a directive by a sworn police officer. We didn't see what led up to this. Once he's asked to leave the plane he can be pissed off but he cant simply refuse.

Since he's Asian, maybe not born in this country, can we give him the benefit of the doubt in terms of a cultural gap? Or should he have seen this sneak attack by United coming?

Definitely. It would be bad if they were just doing this because they had other passengers they were trying to accommodate, but to do it so they could place some non essential employees on the flight and further their own money making interests makes it much worse.

That was a grown ass man acting worse in public than my 3 children ever have. Simply no excuse for an adult to act like that. Truthfully his reaction is why I'm pro-United here. I could never side with a person that acted like that.

So no personal responsibility exists in this world? Just plant yourself and scream until police remove you and then call a lawyer.

United still has their flight data from yesterday up. There was a flight from Chicago to Indianpolis that left after this one with 5 vacant seats left!!!!
https://www.united.com/web/en-US/apps/t ... spx?NFT=SM

They could have put the crew on that one and then had a company shuttle. Or the ticket agents could have used incentives, and this flight to still get people to Louisville (90 min drive)on Sunday.

This mishap should NOT have happened.

I believe Hank is also a virulent anti-recliner on airplanes.

It's possible he just has some sort of brain issue that manifests itself only in airplane related threads.

The doctor was asked to leave the flight he bought a ticket for. The cops were right to smash his head against an armrest and bust his face open. I am legitimately mentally retarded.

I had the computer game Postal. When you would wound a civilian, they would crawl on the ground and say "my eye" and "kill me now".
