<---my dog.
She's the first pet I ever had, mom was allergic to dogs/cats so I never had one growing up. We got her when my wife was pregnant the first time, so I could get used to having something to take care of (my sisters are close to my age, as our my cousins - my daughter was the first child born in my family in 25 years...so I was never around children). She was great training, but it's not the same as having a child, but if you never had a child you probably don't understand that. I have a friend who refers to her cats as her boys and I may find it weird or annoying but expressing that doesn't really help anything, so instead I roll my eyes internally and tell my wife about it so we can laugh.

With that said, Layla (my dog) is awesome. She has the yapper size (she's 13 lbs soaking wet) but doesn't yap. She is really patient with the kids (lets them carry her around the house or lets them chase her in the backyard) and has been a great experience. Plus, she doesn't shed and is one of those dogs that allergic people can be around (so my mom can visit us with no problems).

It's not surprising that you don't love animals or your kids, as it's quite obvious that you don't love yourself. Playing a ladies man on a message board is grounds for psychological help.

   What? Where did you get all of that from? You're taking this "pets are not as important as people" thing too hard.

That's not true. I've just been meaning to bring this up with dolphin for awhile. I think he needs to seek help before we find him bare assed in a dumpster.

We have always adopted older dogs.....usually dogs that were in pairs.

My sister said "where do you find these dogs that are always in a coma?"

We had to have our 15 year old put to sleep last week. She pretty much laid around ever since we adopted her 7 years ago. We have a 5 year old Great Pyrenees who lays around and hardly barks. I'm not sure I could handle a yapper or a hyper dog.

I couldn't really imagine life without dogs in our house. We currently have three - a senior golden, a rescued lab/pyrenees mix, and a young rescued pit...plus some cats. Quite sure Bernstein hates the very premise of my existence. We don't have kids, but my wife and I get that pets aren't the same as kids...doesn't mean we don't love 'em to death. Actually, I should probably amend that...I get that pets aren't the same as kids...I think my wife might blur that line on occasion.

I enjoyed reading through this thread. There are a lot of people in Chus for RFDC or Frank's position that know it's not a good idea to get a dog but would get one anyway to appease their kid or something, and then just drop it off at a shelter when it becomes too much work or they don't have enough time or whatever.

My brother is one of these people and it drives me nuts. They return animals to the pound like a Wal-Mart return.

Agree 100%. Its fucking awful.

There will be hundreds, probably thousands of cats & dogs returned to shelters the first 2 or 3 months of 2015 as people think getting a cat or a dog as a Christmas present for a little kid is a great idea! Actually, its the worst give you could give them.

(yarrr)

So, what we've learned is that, if nothing else, we can always compliment T-Bone by saying "well, his brother's worse".

... and that's the correct use of the non-possessive apostrophe, dopes ...

My brother far exceeds me in accomplishments as a human and father but his long time record on
shepherding pets has been less than exemplary.

I had a dream last night that Spaulding and Bigfan were in. I was sharing an apartment in Wrigleyville with Bigfan. He was a commercial bus driver and had just gotten home from work. For some reason he parked the bus on the street. He told me not to drive the bus but left his keys on the kitchen counter and walked away. For some reason Spaulding was there. She had black hair and was wearing a white bow in her hair. It was one of those kind of course material bows that Madonna used to wear back in the 80s. Anyway, I took the keys off the counter. At first I couldn't find the bus because it was parked several blocks away. When I did find it, it was wedged between cars on a street with no available parking. It was an impossible park job and I couldn't figure out how he did it. As I approached the bus to get in there was a note on the door window. I couldn't read it. Then I woke up.

Would anyone like to interpret?

Having cats around the barn is absolutely mandatory for rodent control. We had an Australian Shepherd for about 4 years around the time our first son was born. When he disappeared, my wife, the dog lover, did not want to replace him. She promised the kids we would get a dog when we finally moved into the farmhouse, but when time actually came, she no longer wanted the clean-up issues. Last summer, our oldest brought home four kittens abandoned at his buddies house- and the wife fell in love with them! Completely reversed previous anti-cat feelings, spent hours with them. First one got hit on the road a week or two ago, and she was devastated. I tried to temper the situation right off the bat- I mean I kill and eat my pets every year (mooo=yummmm). You just cannot get attached to barn cats like that, but she was lost. I could handle a dog, but would want it to be a working dog, herding the cows as needed. Those dogs require a LOT of work as well, but pay it back.

You're in a tight spot right now in your life. You have the tools needed to get yourself out but you're going to need assistance from an unlikely source to help you figure out how to maneuver yourself on the right path.

there has to be something about the black hair and white bow. Those are unremarkable features but they were prominent in the dream. The bus means something. The note.

That's the prize that will be awaiting you once you figure out how to get yourself out of the tight spot. A bow represented in your dream is a universal symbol of celebration. This dream indicates that you will have material attainment in the forthcoming future and this is a reason for enjoyment.
