I think that's a fair statement. It's fucked up though. And I realize Trump is exploiting it. But I also think Trump's question of black voters, "What do you have to lose?" is legitimate.

WOW! I could not possibly disagree more.

It's like Rally's slogan: 'You Gotta Eat'

When your new slogan is just basically saying 'fuck it'... That's the end of things. Haha

Even if you think the slogan is true, it brings American politics a level of cynicism that depresses me.

I'm not saying Trump is going to help poor people, black or white, but you have to admit voting for Democrats hasn't really helped black Americans very much and I'm pretty sure Hillary Clinton isn't going to change that.

I'm pretty sure you and I agree that Trump isn't the savior of the working class, but I think what the slogan really means is that Democrats take the black vote for granted and how has that served those voters?

Well, yeah, that's clearly what the slogan means. But we have a candidate saying (let's be honest)... "I'm not gonna help you, but is it any worse than what you already deal with?" It's a level of cynicism that is truly depressing. I also find it to be almost mocking the black community.

I don't really take it that way. And I don't think he's mocking the black community more than he's mocking anyone else. He's a fool. It's criminal that he's this close to the presidency. He may actually be egomaniacal enough to believe he can really fix all these problems and help all these people.

He's spitting in the face of minority communities. How anyone doesn't see that is mind-boggling.

I don't think he is. Or maybe I should say I don't think he thinks he is. It's not really for me to say though. Black voters believe he is, as he is polling at about 1% with those voters. But Hillary Clinton is stabbing minority communities in the back. She's bought and paid for by corporate America and her election isn't going to magically change who she is.

I think he knows exactly what he is doing with his "outreach" to blacks and Hispanics. What exactly is he saying that makes you believe that he is genuine? The fact he isn't saying "my African-American" or "the blacks"? The fact that he isn't calling Hispanics "rapists and murderers"?

Words do matter, though. This may sound weird, but I'd rather have someone who pretends to care about the disenfranchised than someone who blatantly doesn't give a fuck. Why?... because words do matter. If Hillary panders to minorities and does nothing to help them, there is still a public awareness that they need help. Donald Trump is essentially saying "Not only will I not help the disenfranchised; I don't give a fuck that I'm not." That's a scary precedent. And I also find it scary that many say "well, he doesn't mean what he says." Okay?... then what the fuck does he mean? We are on the cusp of making racism a normal and accepted thing... and this motherfucker is promoting it. I absolutely do not like Hillary Clinton... but let's not go crazy. She's a somewhat rational person who doesn't normalize language that promotes bigotry. I have to be honest... some of the refusal to criticize Trump comes off as silent approval of the shit he spews... and that is scary.

Okay, well, there's enough about him to criticize that's real that we don't need to make shit up. He didn't call Hispanics rapists and murderers. He said that a lot of illegals that are coming here aren't the best and the brightest. Many of them are criminals, blah, blah, blah... And while untrue, it's not quite the same as saying all Mexican men are rapists.

But I think you misunderstand me. I don't think he's genuine at all except when he's talking about himself which he does most of the time. I truly believe he has such an overblown estimation of his smarts and abilities he thinks he can really "make America great again". He has the ego that all rich guys seem to have. Just like Bruce Rauner thought he was gonna waltz into Springfield and kick everybody's ass. Government isn't business.

But I do think Trump is flummoxed and frustrated that black voters don't see that he can do all these great things and help them. I'm not saying he's right. We both know he's full of shit.

But I don't think he's ever said anything close to that. I think you feel that's who he is because he's a wealthy businessman running on a Republican ticket. But look, I don't want to get myself in a position where I'm defending Donald Trump. I'm resigned that one of these two goofs is going to be president. And I hope it's her because at least she isn't going to get us into WWIII on purpose.

I understand that you're a logical person, and I know you're obviously not a bigot or a Trump supporter. You and I agree on a lot and can have a respectful disagreement. But I do absolutely disagree with you here. Hillary Clinton will do nothing to change the country all that much. She's basically a Republican. Her actions outside of politics are certainty scummy in many respects, and that's one of the reasons why I rooted against her in the primaries.

But Trump absolutely is changing the national dialogue. People were always racist, but they are now a bit too comfortable being racist. These Facebook memes are appalling. He is not knocking down the barriers of political correctness (if he was, I would commend him). He is making it okay to be openly and blatantly racist and isolationist. My parents and extended family were people affected negatively by NAFTA and other free trade agreements. I grew up outside of Galesburg IL, for God's sake. There was no harder hit town. Maytag and Butler employed everyone in that city.

But that absolutely does not excuse the normalization of hatred and misplaced anger that this asshole is feeding on. Maytag and Butler were simply inevitable realities of free markets. We survived... and we are doing well. But those struggles do not justify the type of uninhibited bigotry and hatred that this asshole promotes. We will not continue to thrive if we accept this as a national discourse.

You really think Trump is driving that? I think political discourse has always been pretty rough. We just tend to romanticize the statesmanship of guys from the past. But I would agree that there's more polarization than I can remember. And social media has just provided a platform for asswipes to share their idiotic thoughts.

I see Trump as more of a result than a cause.

Social media and 24 hour news cycles, for sure.

But I think Trump's effect is more subconscious. I agree that the political discourse in this country has been terrible for at least a decade or two... but I truly do think - as objectively as I can - that many who promoted racism (tea partiers, for example) were seen as fringe before. He has made this shit mainstream. And I honestly dont even think he intended to. I still think he has severe anxiety about the fact that he is now on the cusp of actually being president. I don't see MORE racism now... I just see it more from people I wouldn't expect.

We have also reached a point where complete nonsense is acceptable. Don't get me wrong - there has always been nonsense... but it's just accepted as fact now. Think about what this guy says... it's absolutely ridiculous, but no one even gives a shit. In the end, I guess my stance is that words do matter... and at that level with that amount of media coverage, words may be even more important than actions, as weird as that sounds. Discourse is important. The Clintons are scum, but as long as they maintain some sort of civility with their words, they will die off and we can reload without a sense of complete cynicism. It sounds so cheesy, but these people truly are role models, and the people who will be taking care of you and me when we are old and senile will be reflections of the tone set by these people. I cannot condone a person who not only states but also promotes so much ignorance and who inspires such a visceral hatred for those who see things differently.

Just my opinion... not trying to be preachy.

I'm not saying Trump is going to help poor people, black or white, but you have to admit voting for Democrats hasn't really helped black Americans very much and I'm pretty sure Hillary Clinton isn't going to change that.

Community Reinvestment Act helped increase the amount of homeownership for African Americans during the mid 90's. Whatever eventually became of it the intentions were good. The Clinton Global Initiative does very good work but all you ever hear about is the corruption and even that is alleged. Nothing has ever been proven.

Trump has been shown to fuck over people throughout his business career. From investors to small businesses to illegal aliens to workers. He shits on everyone. The Clintons have helped for more people than that guy has. It is not even close.

They have gotten quite wealthy from politics. I will admit that. If they'd left politics completely they'd still be wealthy. The guy was the fucking President for Christ sakes. He was going to be wealthy one way or another. Once someone proves corruption fine. Do your time. The government has actually spent more on witchhunts than the CLintons have pocketed throughout the years.

I get that she has flaws. I Politicians have them. Harding was a member of the KKK. So was Truman. FDR was one of the biggest political operatives and dirty dealers to ever hold the office. He also was an adulterer and so was his wife. Hoover knew it that is why he could never fire the guy. We know what Nixon was pretty much. Wilson was an avowed racist. He hated blacks with a passion. Kennedy was a multiple time adulterer with a family that had mob ties. LBJ was a dirty dealing politician that was essentially owned by Texas oil money. GW was a dope fiend and drunk and career fuck up that was saved by his family's money and political connections.

I say all this to say that you don't have to be mother Theresa to be President. I'd take qualifications and experience over just about anything. Hillary Clinton when you stack her up against Trump blows the dude out of the fucking water. He has single handedly alienated just about every other minority group in this country with his xenophobia. If not all definitely the top two.

The Republican Party is really at a critical point. They have nominated an avowed racist that knows absolutely nothing about government. THey have nominated a guy that has essentially made a mockery of the entire process.

Think about this for a minute. All we ever hear is about Hillary and her entitlement complex. Which person has been acting as though they are most entitled? This asshole thinks that the path to the Presidency goes through twitter and campaign rallies and Sean Hannity interviews.

He has no ground game. No Field operation. No TV advertisement. Fewer than a hundred people on
his campaign staff. He has a guy with absolutely no experience running his campaign. He has gone out of his way to piss off the key people in the party. Given all of this he should still be president and if he isn't the system is rigged.

Aside from all of that he doesn't even think that he has to brush up on policy. This dumbass thinks that he can just go out and wing his way to the Presidency. Hillary however is the entitled and anointed one though.

Chas that one really is too easy unless you want to ignore the AIDS victims in Africa. I know it can be easy to overlook Africans. Let's keep a record of all of the people Trump has stiffed over the years. Hint: it may get rather lengthy. He has after all been involved in 3500 litigation suits

Even if you think the slogan is true, it brings American politics a level of cynicism that depresses me.

It is just not in word but also in deed. The guy was found guilty of housing discrimination. He took out an $85,000 ad which advocated for the death penalty for the 5 defendants in the Central Park Jogger case.

The guy has never elevated a black person to a top executive position despite being the owner of numerous businesses. Blacks used to have to leave the floor whenever he entered the Casino floor. They also called him for not hiring blacks at his Gary Ind. Casino site. This even after he agreed in writing to hire a certain number of blacks.

His racism is real. This is no act and it shouldn't be taken lightly. I'm not expecting any politician to be the champion of the black cause. Blacks shouldn't be ignored either. He is going to do it if he is elected. Why shouldn't he. Electing him after all of the things that he has said and done is a validation for his views. He will really show his ass then.

I agree. This guy can't be president. Where you and I disagree is that I believe Hillary Clinton will be almost as bad, just not as overtly and she may even be worse in different ways. But this is the choice we have.
