If a service technician is in your house working on plumbing, electrical, whatever....what is a good cash side tip per hour for each guy?

I know what I do but I'm never sure if it is enough or too much.

I don't know man I never expect anything really. I've always thought that for any job any tip is greatly appreciated. If a guy is busting his ass or does an otherwise commendable job for a couple two three hours a 20 is more than adequate to express your appreciation. If it's an install and it's an all day think maybe a 50.

Cool. I generally go with $20/guy for a 1-2 hour job so they can at least get some lunch or grab a 12-pack after work.

All day jobs I go higher.

I just always worry that I insulted a guy after I do it.

You're not insulting unless the guy is an asshole. Technically weren't supposed to accept tips at my job although I've never seen anyone turn one down. What's big time appreciated at my gig is a rave review to the shop, particularly if it's done on Google reviews because 5 star ratings bring in business which is great for the business, less so for me the poor sap out doing the work. We used to get spiffed on race reviews but they stopped doing that once they realized they were paying technicians which is generally frowned upon at my job. We're assets, not really people with families.

Slow week. Traffic on the highways seems to be less than what it would be on a weekend even.

Yep. Noticed it last night driving to bowling. I think there were actually more cars out when I was coming home at 10 than when I left my house at 4:30

I'm planning on camping in the old home office from 6am-..... tomorrow at a leisurely work pace.

Might catch up on some old whistler threads.

I'm considering charting a new career course and have narrowed it down to 3.

1. Traveling salesman.. ala John Candy in Trains, Planes and Automobiles. I'll sell everything I own and live out of hotel rooms.

2. HVAC distributor...I'll go to work for one of these small niche distributors that you see in business parks. I'll work the counter or box up orders for shipping. It will be a bunch of 60-70 year old guys named Ralph, Walter and Teddy. We'll spend the days busting balls and complaining about customers bothering us.

3. Driving range attendant...I'll sit on a stool and hand out the buckets of worn out driving range balls. If I like the cut of your jib, I might add a couple of balls to the bucket.

I have a good friend that is a manufacturer's rep.

It would be Mike, Ronny and Augie though.

In theory, I could do the first gig now as I have 5 states and might have more by the end of 2022. But, I'm not sure my company would let me travel that much.

Ha! True....

$20 tip is what i used to give to hot bartenders for being hot. i never tipped a man in my house for doing any sort of work, because the only time that happens is when im forced to let him in (fuck you cable companies)

I did and I've made a lot of headway on something that has been a burr in my saddle for several years. There is still a lot to go but I gained clarity today and everything seems so straightforward now.

See, something good comes out of the Penske file.

Transitioning into a new position within the same company. Switching jobs with another person in a different department. We've been trying to cross train one another and it was supposed to take effect today but found out they aren't going to change our titles and everything in the computer system until Jan 1st. Just going through all of my old folders, both physical and digital that have accumulated over the past 15 years. Trying to save anything that might help her into a group of shared folders. The thing that I will always remember about coming into this group was that it was about the time the Bears last went to the Super Bowl. Anyway this month will probably be a bit stunted as I hand off my current projects to her and I take on hers and the back half of this month is always very quiet in my office.

Setting up my 2023 vacation calendar and just realized that due to my years of service I picked up 2 extra days of vacation I was unaware of this past year. I only had one left and now it's 3. 8)

Working 6-10am Tuesday - Thursday this week. As you can imagine it’s empty in there, but at least the time goes quickly. Glad I don’t need to be there all day.

We can rule out excessive jacking off as a cause of that wrist injury…

EDIT: Certainly not in the past year...could be a chronic thing. Was just a ganglion cyst.
