All the things that could potentially lead this prediction to be incorrect are possible and a few more. These are just the primary ones.

I figure that if a particular cousin of mine has jumped on something, it has jumped the shark and is too late for me to make any money at it. He has a pretty solid track record of entering at the peak of something, not out of ignorance but usually that's when he has enough disposable income.

I need to ask him for his crypto recommendations so I know what to avoid.

I figured that when I saw that there was a Bitcoin ATM at the BP on Central at the Stevenson that I was too late. But that was a couple of years ago, so maybe not.

What is the smallest unit of Bitcoin or Ethereum which one can purchase without outrageous trading fees? If it's something like $10 a shot, I may start investing as a challenge to cut down on Starbucks and similar frivolous spending. Go a week without such a purchase, buy $10 worth of crypto.

Sounds like you've done well for yourself. But, watch your expenditures closely? Divorces? Bad investments? Or, just like to watch?

No divorces, no children that anyone has claimed are mine. Basic Boglehead mutual fund investing in 401k/IRA along with deferred bonuses reinvested as privately owned company stock, most of the latter has supported my parents for the last seven or eight years.

Main thing was not living in the city even though I worked in the Loop the last 15+ years before moving away. Saved a shitload on my mortgage over city rent, pushed it aggressively into my 401k and left it alone. Rode all the way down in 2008 and held the entire time. Considered dabbling in rental real estate but I'm basically an elitist and don't want to deal with lowlifes except for here.

being a landlord is god awful anymore. if you want to real estate, get a 16+ unit apartment and hire people to manage it. dont pay them shit and never fix anything. you can make pretty good returns.

AMC is now over 20 bucks. The company has a ton of debt in a dying industry. We are definitely in a mania in pretty much everything due to the federal reserve. It's going to end badly, eventually.

Is that a dying industry?

I may not be the barometer but everyone I talk to seems to be anxious to get back in to theaters.

I know people decry the irritations of going but watching a summer spectacular on the small screen seems so inadequate. I seem unfocused even on a non CGI movie with a great story when watching at home.

We rented a theatre room about a month ago with some friends. It was heaven. I don't believe this is a dying industry.

the drive ins I've attended have been packed, even in bad weather. I know there is a percentage that are there to drive to the last row and bone but the up front spaces are also full

Teenagers at the least and single people are always going to want to go the theater.

Teenagers don't want to watch movies at their house with friends.

Single guys need a place to go where you don't have to talk for a while on a date, then go have a couple drinks, and see what happens.

I've been happy with my UAL and Aramark investments from a few months back. The world hasn't changed as much as people keep saying it has changed. People still took flights after 9/11.

That's nostalgia. I would pay $60 or so to relive a part of my childhood that I enjoyed. Going inside a movie theater is at the bottom of my post covid list. Paying $20 to watch the movie on HBO, Amazon or even YouTube works better for me.

You're old, Nas. I went to movies about 3x/year after we had kids and it was always because we had to see a kid movie.

Movies are a young person's game. That fundamental changed long before COVID when old people realized they could just wait and see a movie at home later. That hasn't changed.

No doubt. I'm definitely not in the demographic they care about.

First thing our teenagers did the week they opened Cinemark was meet up with a group of friends to go watch some piece of crap movie.

Movies will be fine.

I may not invest in a Sophie's Choice 2: The Other One type of movie. But Hulk Gets Married: SMASH!! is going to be fine.

I think I’ll always be a theater person.

Going to the theater with my toddler and now preschool age daughter over the last year has been unexpectedly fun for me.

Plus there are big movies that are just a better viewing experience in the theaters IMO.

This is the part of single fatherhood that I absolutely hated when my older kids were younger. I'm carrying popcorn, nachos, drinks and tickets. All the while I'm hoping that 3 small kids don't get distracted and wander off. Then the praying that no one had to piss in the middle of the movie. Of course they all did at completely different times.

We went at least once a month. They talk to me about going to see certain movies now and I don't remember a second of it because of the stress of dragging around energetic 7, 5 and 3 year old kids.

Yeah I think if that happened to me I would also grow to have a disdain for the theater experience.

I'm looking forward to Top Gun, Mission Impossible, and a few other movies this year, but it's hard to find those movies in the middle that aren't the Indie movies or the comic book movies that cost 300 million. What happened to the bro comedies or the adult dramas. I find more entertaining adult drama tv series on HBO these days. Not sure why the movie studios stopped making those movies.

The mid movie bathroom break with multiple young kids while solo parenting was terrible. And that's just because I'm old and drink too much pop.

There is a lot of truth in his comments. It is complete folly what is going on with Fed policy and continuous deficit spending all while unfunded entitlement commitments loom over everything. If/when interest rates rise, the outstanding federal debt is going to crush cash flow.

The answer for everything is more spending. And the Fed is spending by buying all sorts of bonds effectively letting the Federal debt growth without consequence. Rates are artificially held down.

One of the front page stories in today’s WSJ is the corporate debt explosion especially among below investment grade companies.

The bill (and possibly the jbill) will eventually come due.

Right spot for it. If the world loses faith in fiat money, we have hard assets like real estate, gold, commodities, and crypto to choose from. Fed policy is bullish for crypto.

I am aware, but there is a scarcity to bitcoin that apparently does not exist with fiat currencies. I am as skeptical as anyone about crypto stuff, but the demise of a stable money supply is making bitcoin look more attractive.
