his parents lived in myrtle beach (i went to school in VA). I think he lives in like egypt now (works for BP)

my roommate in the same hall had a jalopy of a grand national. body was rough but the engine was still strong. his dad had a typhoon and a pontiac TTA.

my cars were all over the place, started with an 81 Monte Carlo with a rebuilt 305, moved onto an 86 isuzu trooper (my favorite) and then drove a 90 prelude Si with the H23A1 and allwheel steering until the wheels fell off. then bought trucks and thats all i've owned since then.

Got it, somehow I thought you meant here.

Was the TTA the 3.8 from the GN? Or was it a really rare unicorn 1980/81 TTA with the turbo 4.9?

Reason I ask is because I kinda adopted an 80 TTA Pace Car about this time last year.

it was the GN 3.8L. I think his dad was a buick mechanic or something.

when GM jumped to the 4.3L with a turbocharger (i think it used the same Garret intercooler as the 3.8L) He had to have a typhoon.

I rode in a typhoon one time. and for a while I wanted one.

My parents had an astrovan with the LB4 and i wanted to figure out how to put the turbocharger and intercooler on it so bad.

Ok, so it was an '89 Indy Pace car then.

Yea, an ex-G/F's dad had Sy's/Ty's and a random Turbo T-Type as well as a collection of SHO's. At the time, I had a built LS1 in my Camaro, and when he and I would go to the drag strip, those Sy/Ty's would rip me a new one out of the hole, but once I wound up the LS, I by about half track I was blowing right back around him.

Until the turbo blew. With all the struggles they had early, I was surprised that they lasted so long in production.

Hah I never heard of that. The Grand National was some mythical car that no one I knew ever owned. But soon after the Mustang 5.0’s became the preferred ride. I was always a Camaro/GM guy.

This is really a tiny matter, but wasn't the 6 cyl GN turbo 3.6L?

Ha! The 5.0 Mustang was the last car I really lusted after, until the Shelbys came back out. I haven't been a car guy in 30 years.

3.8.

GM's modern "High feature" V6 used in pretty much everything now, is a 3.6L

My grandmother gave me a matchbox of one of these. It’s kind of been the dream since.
