I made a run in some shorts and a hoodie. I was fine leaving out of the house. I was fine inside a cold car. I stopped for gas on the way back, and the wind kicked my ass..

Yea it's no joke. Limbs can freeze within minutes. Not fun.

Because it happened before, does that make it safe to be outside?

Are you referring to Reagan being re-elected?

Christmas Eve, 1983.

Working outside when wind chills were -80.

Fun times.

Diesel fuel in my truck turned to jelly.

Same night I spent several hours on a dock unloading USPS mail trucks in the melrose park(?) distribution center. Fortunately I understood that even though I was outside working, the lazy public sector union guys “inside” were way too lazy to keep up my pace so I could get a break from working in freezers. My supervisor found it funny. Fuck it was frigid that night.

I was on holiday break from basic training. That winter was fucking brutal, and I won’t forget it. My girlfriend and I went with her brother and his girlfriend to a wedding reception on NYE, and got a flat tire on the way back, and it was colder than shit that night, too.

Then, a few weeks later was Bivouac for the end of basic training down at Fort Knox, and again it was colder than shit - double-digit below zero temps every night.

My mom had a diesel Oldsmobile. Might have been thst winter, might if of been later but it would gel up driving down the road after being plugged in all night inside. Guess the garages back then would be full of those gm diesels just sitting and thawing out. Only have problems these days with bio. Wish it was easier to get straight blended.

This wind and cold was significant out here but there has been worse.

I just recreated the Winter of '83 this year- I picked my Mom up on my way home from work Friday evening for the trip to the farm- no way her car would make it out of the subdivision. In 83 we drove my Landcruiser FJ40 to the farm Christmas Eve. With only a soft top, it was far from warm inside, and Mom scraped my dorm parking permit off while keeping the windshield defrosted. Cost me $20 to replace it back at college. Funny what you remember.

There is going to be a riot today at Midway Airport. At 4:00 AM this morning half of the flights on the board were listed as cancelled. The wait for customer service has to have been a solid 5+ hours all AM with no end in sight.

Brutal for travelers but has to be worse for employees. My sister spoke to a woman who waited 10 hours to get to Savannah yesterday, she went home to sleep four hours and was back in that five hour line today.

LOL, my sister pointed that out.

We got in a cab and went to O’Hare after we booked a flight on United.

But seriously what a terrible father/husband. Man up, buy 5 Monsters and drive straight thru and get your family to Florida.

And he didn't read the Airbnb fine print at checkout.

I am sure it isn't even fine print. Cancellation policies are normally prominent.

I do OK and fly southwest all the time.

Maybe I need to start to overpay for flights just for pride.

If I'm not mistaken, Parkins' family makes Deni$ look like a welfare case. Instead of whining on Twitter, he should have been looking for alternatives at O'Hare last week so his kids could board a plane instead of watching them leave.

I feel like southwest is pretty reliable. United has always been bad for us and expensive.

Complaining to a brand on Twitter is much worse than flying-Southwest-while-rich.

I like to be able to have wifi if I need it and be able to charge my phone. I also don't like to have to set an alarm so I'm not the last person to board a plane. Southwest is useful in some situations, but it's not an option I would go to for every flight.

Yeah if you got money zero reason to fly Southwest. Cattle call seating is the worst
