Geneseo is an elite stuck up asswipe of a town. I know I did work there for several years. Their poo no smell. Compares to Aledo and why they think they are superior amazes me. Both towns blow goats and that gives goats a bad rep.

This is pretty common around the Great Lakes. Lots of people do this in Michigan and WNY too. (Buffalo talk is like someone doing an over-the-top impression of Chicago talk.) It probably has to do with German and Polish influences.

i boycotted jewel because we used to go to their deli all the time. their chicken and wing choices were really good. a bunch of us at the office. to the tune of probably a few thousand monopoly game pieces. we've played for 4 years now and outside of a few jars of pickles, we haven't won shit out of that scam.

Its just making it possessive. The store itself belongs to Jewel: the company, hence it is Jewel's. "Hey I'm going to Mike's for the game, wanna come?" = "Hey I'm going to Jewel's for some fruit loops, want anything?". French does something kinda similar with the word chez. "Je vais chez Auchan" means I am going to Auchan's (French supermarket chain) place, you use chez the same way when describing a person's abode (chez Mike, to use the earlier example) The amount of borrowing English and German have done from French already makes this a pretty plausible explanation.

I dont hear people add the article too often. I know I just call it Jewel's, not THE Jewel's.

There are people who call "Aldi" "Aldi's," but never "The Aldi's."

It should be noted that outside of movie reviewer/radio host the only other job Nick DiGilio has ever worked is the Jewels. They pay just about nothing if you're not in management, but if you were one of the old timers you just might have gotten in on one of those sweet deals before the union started doing bad deals.
