If this was a Malcolm X flag taken off the wall and put on the floor, you would be ok with it?

I wouldn't care.

Someone probably would though.

These are public schools, not outside in the park or at the art gallery. A photograph and news story of the original "art work" would have done the trick. we don't "recreate" controversial educational events in the school. Do we "recreate" the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima? No we do not. We don't even know who Iwo Jima is.

Elected school board member calls old glory "toilet paper" http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/e ... story.html

To be fair to the U46 schoolboard member, U46 is Elgin, which is basically one giant shithole. So they need all the toilet paper they can get.

It is more than Elgin. Add in a few more towns, including Bartlett.

I know that. You can throw in other upper class suburbs like Sleepy Hollow as well. But when you hear U46, Elgin is what comes to mind.

Yeah, I really don't care. Disrespect the flag all you want. I do reserve the right, though, to pop in and say "bullshit" if you try to tell me you're not really trying to disrespect the flag. Besides, the uproar over the flag display in the library is the best possible lesson in the First these kids could get, I wish the school would have showed a little more spine about it, though.

This may be controversial, but the constitution > flag. I pray Hatchetman doesn't kick my ass for posting this.

This is totally irrelevant. Would you suggest a display of pornography would be appropriate in a public school?

Great analogy.

What is wrong with the analogy as it relates to NAS. He is proud of what Malcolm X stands for as many Americans (not many on these boards) are proud of what the flag stands for.

Its a person, not the flag of a sovereign nation. It's two completely different things. The Supreme Court has never heard a case on "desecrating" a Malcolm X flag...or a Cubs, Bears, or Raiders flag.

Malcolm X was more then just a person. He is a symbol of human rights and died for his beliefs. He stood up against White America for the rights of blacks and while he might not be a "flag" to a sovereign nation, he was a hero to many. Freedom against suppression and segregation. Comparing him to the Cubs, or Bears flag is disrespectful.

The American Flag represents the rights for people like Malcolm X to be heard. Take away those rights and Malcolm would have never of had a church or platform to preach from. His message never would have been heard or written about in history books.

The message the NFL is trying to send might not be about the flag, but it sure as hell is about the flag. When 911 happened, what did you see everywhere? The American flag. People pulled together as a nation under the flag and we overcame a horrible event in our lifetime. It was the symbol of unity, when chaos was threatening to destroy America. Without our unity we are weak as a nation.

America is like the carebears divided. We need to band together and STARE chaos into oblivion.

Why do you hate the constitution? Why do you love a symbol more than the living document it represents?

Yeah, no. Read the bold part again. If you can't understand the difference then step out of this thread.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification. D300 is a weird one in that it goes all the way out to Hampshire but also includes Algonquin.

I think the constitution is a fine document. I also think MANY people on the left cannot burn it so they do best thing they can, which is to indoctrinate young people as to how horrible this country is. And it is working. Which is why this country is done for. Revolution should be fun!

Republicans control damn near every state and couldn't win an election without the use of identity politics but the left is definitely ruining the country by indoctrinating the youth.
