Entercom owns CBS Sports Radio now. Whether they'll keep it, who knows. It always seemed like a stupid initiative to me. Jim Rome and some other crap no one cared about, and Rome didn't even get cleared in New York or Chicago.

The facebook comments on Feder's page are exactly what you'd expect of a white baby-boomer station flipping to a black gen-x/millennial station. I want to reply to each and every Angry Facebook Dad with "you can just listen to 94.7 instead" but it's clearly more about the fact that they've "lost ground" than any actual loyalty to WJMK itself. But I get it, I was pissed when WNUA went Spanish and I don't like smooth jazz at all.

OK. yeah, they had a button on the car radio but rarely used. they played all kinds of well-worn hits from MANY eras. would be good for a dentists office.

That used to be MAGIC 104 with dick biondi, etc. playing stuff like Black is Black....I want my baby back.

I loved that station.

Was the station I was trapped with in my Dad’s car as a youth. Unless the old sportswriters or bears game was on. I miss it now. Simplier times man.

now if only 94.7 would go back to being a real Oldies channel, as they were right after WJMK abandoned the format

In the 80s there were still big band stations. Why the hell cant there be 60s music today?

I flip on xm 60s sometimes. Need to put it into my truck as I seem to be driving that more on road trips than my car.

Incidentally, has any format died a more thorough death than easy listening? I think there's precisely one station left in America, and it's in Fort Myers-Naples, clearly for people who are at least 85 years old.

Sounds good to me. K-Hits sucked and the cluster lacked a black station. Work in some classic B96 tracks and I'll be interested.

More like K-Brick!

I would have to ask resident black music expert RPB.

Earlier they played a Nelly song that stole the melody from, of all the things in the whole wide world, the theme song from the '80s version of Hollywood Squares.

Had no idea they changed so imagine my surprise when I turned 104 on and heard Biggie Smalls.

I put my dad on my Spotify account for $5/month. He has all the easy listening he can possibly listen to on a Samsung Tab A tablet. I started off by setting him up with Artist Radio for Nat King Cole and he went from there. He's used it enough now that I just reset it to one of his Daily Mixes when I'm at his place, which is about once a week. He's thrilled with it, and there's no advertising.

The Spotify Android UI is the most hideous piece of shit out there, and the widget doesn't work properly (it dies whenever you watch a YouTube video, and can't remember where it left off). So I basically taught him out to hit play and let it go from there. I bought it for him after my mom passed away last year, and he mostly listens to it to fall asleep.

If "What's My Name" by Rihanna is a throwback I want to die.

Pitchfork has "The 200 Best Songs of the 1970s" as a playlist on Spotify. I'm listening to it now. While one can argue the rankings (although two Bowie songs and Gaye's What's Going On in the first six is reasonably legitimate), a radio PD could do worse than playing 7 of these 200 songs every hour at random, and mix it up with some low end Top 40 from the Pop, Rock, and R&B charts for the rest of the day.

Okay, I think I've heard "Big Pimpin'," "I'll Be Missing You," and "Back Dat Ass Up" twice today and I only listened for an hour in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. If they don't stretch out this library, it's gonna be Jammin' Oldies all over again (another Jimmy DeCastro joint, iirc), where everyone loves the format until they realize they've heard "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang enough to last a lifetime and the format goes from hot to extinct in 16 months.

Sounds like CH has put on 104.3 and torn off the knobs. There's some 70s lingo for the kids out there.

I'm enjoying the novelty, yes. I've heard the song about getting a boner from dancing with a girl more times than I did in 6th grade and more times than I got a boner from dancing with a girl.

Jay-Z fuckin' sucks so much, every Jay-Z song is just "unh, used to sell crack in the subway, unh, now I own stock in Subway" and then everyone calls him a genius. One time Bill Maher presented him with a leather-bound book of his own lyrics, what a clod.

I really surprised the resident white rap expert hasn’t chimed in yet.
