The Brady Bunch Christmas was pretty sweet. Mrs. Brady was hot (obviously) and God fixed her voice. She sang like a son of a bitch in that church.

Alice was just about my favorite person as a kid. Kind of cool how the role of the domestic was not sexualized.

Simpsons:

Brodka: Hey, kid: one more thing. If you ever set foot in this store again, you'll be spending Christmas in juvenile hall. Capisce? (Pause) Well, do you understand?

Bart: Everything except "capisce."

I always liked "Death Takes a Holiday" from M*A*S*H.

"Marge Be Not Proud" is a staple for me.

I've mentioned "The Wonder Years" Christmas episodes. The trilogy. "Christmas", "Christmas Party", and "Let Nothing You Dismay".

But MST's got my favorites: "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" and "Santa Claus"...absolute classics.

Those are classics indeed!

Also: TV Guide ranks the Christmas episode of Petticoat Junction as # 9. It's a little before my time, but the Guide says:

TV Guide wrote:

Petticoat Junction's Christmas Episode is awesome. The whole idea of a hotel owned by some lady with three hot daughters is cool in itself. Wouldn't that be awesome to stay there? One of each, too, in 60s parlance: a redhead, a blonde, and a brunette. Today, "one of each" would probably refer to a white chick, a black chick, and a spicy Latina. Maybe get a little Chinese in there, too. Anyway, great show.

I think I made all of this up.

In any case, any additions? I haven't seen too many Christmas episodes of shows on this year.

'The Office' had a few good ones.

HawaiiYou was dead on the mark when he suggested The Honeymooners, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas." Ralph's remarks at the end of the episode is among the best Christmas speeches Hollywood has ever given us. Way better than anything in It's A Wonderful Life, or A Christmas Story, and MANY others.

The Andy Griffith Show, Christmas Story is another all timer. The Colorized one I love. Started a tradition where we

Yup. Ol' Ben Weaver has a change of heart after he sees the Christmas happenings in the courthouse.

When I was a kid there was a Walton's Christmas movie with the wrong dad or mom I remember. A classic was the Dick Van Dyke Show one. None really stick out as my favorite. There was also the reunion Very Brady Christmas which was good campy nostalgia.

We just watched it again on Sunday, always a favorite.

On a side note, there's a few issues with the courthouse/set I noticed this time. For one, when they show the courthouse front from the street there are clearly windows on each side of the doors, but from the inside there is a solid wall from the door toward the jail cells. Also, the window Ben peaks through would have to had to have been inside the Barber shop as there is no gap between the buildings for an alley. It's also strange to me that for some reason they eliminated the closet(?) door adjacent to the cells in later seasons. I know it's dumb stuff but this is the kind of crap you notice when you've watched a show since you were a kid and never tire of it.

The "Arnold's Christmas" episode from Hey Arnold! was a good one. I wish they'd show it on tv.

It's the only episode of Hey Arnold! I ever saw. That show came on after I was no longer an undergrad and living in Lincoln Park (I wasn't home a lot), and it ended just when my first child was beginning to toddle around.

Ok, any more additions? I still love the Petticoat Junction ones, and I think Deadwood missed out on some permanent advertiser revenue by not having a Christmas special.

The Twilight Zone's "Night of the Meek" is great, too. My theory on this (which about 10 million other people apparently share) is that the Santa character (played by James Joyce-lookalike Art Carney) really is Santa. He just got so disillusioned with the world that he plum forgot who he was.

I'm gonna condense all of the episodes mentioned here into a list. Any more???? Sorry, I'm really into Christmas.

Similar plot to the Andy Griffith Christmas episode. It's from 1974, and so Chuck was still a member of the cast. I can see why they got rid of him; he added nothing and just crowded the scene.
