He's basically saying I should not have pushed on the "cling to guns and religion". He's not saying most of my legislation did next to nothing to change the circumstances of the people most suffering. In fact he says he left the economy in a good place for Trump.

He did.

7 straight years of economic growth is a good thing.

It's really not.

It's more realization that Trump's election showed that people don't really see themselves as part of a wider global population and are way more comfortable in their bubbles.

That despite all the lofty narratives people like to spew about coming together and uniting, people are way more happy when they have some other group of people to look down on
.

Removing race from that statement (Not that you put it there) and it is as correct as any statement can be.

I'm not sure what you're arguing. The first quote states Obama's possible regrets and feeling his presidency may have been "empty cosmopolitan globalism"

The policies promoting cosmopolitan globalism has benefited MANY in urban centers and resulted in, your words, "those who were suffering in 2008 looked like the same rundown shitholes in 2016"

Can we get to the part about how that relates to the article you posted.....

Economic growth that benefited mostly the people at the very top. That's why people are angry. Their day-to-day is not changing, and many are falling behind. He had the chance to have an economic New Deal, and instead he punted and bailed out the banks.

Here's a revolutionary idea- why should people be a slave to interest rates for their house? If they buy a primary residence why not have a set interest rate so that they can pay off a $100,000 home in 10 years? That was the type of thing he could have proposed at the time. Instead he bailed out the banks and the auto industry.

So what you're proposing is government taking over the financial system. Great idea.

bailing out the auto industy is not a populist move?

bank bailouts were under the bush administration....

obama was pretty cunty relatively speaking to reagan/clinton/bush to banks with dodd-frank/cfpb...

but whatever, you're on a roll!

I view his legacy as missed opportunities and a refusal to turn back the trend of executive overreach he inherited from others.

They already do when institutions fail. When individuals fail it’s all on them.
