If I had to change a couple filters or install a thermostat I'd be getting shitty.

Some people should drink more.

Some people should drink less.

In general smoking a bit of bud is a better alternative if trying to unwind.

I stopped drinking about a decade ago for over a year because my doctor scared the hell out of me. Going out to a club or lounge was the most annoying experience at that time. Being sober while everyone is drinking is difficult because you see and here EVERYTHING. Everyone was annoying. Now I've learned how to be sober around drunk people. Whenever I decide to go out without drinking I'm rarely annoyed.

I've always found controlled drinkers able to quietly abstain without being overbearing.

Are you totally abstaining from alcohol or are you having a drink or two?

For me even I generally have a drink or two if everyone else is drinking, I just consume one drink in the time they consume five and after a certain point just switch to water. But even one or two drinks has an affect even if you dont consciously notice it. I've noticed I'm way more tolerant of drunken behavior when I've had even a small amount of alcohol vs. being totally irritated by drunkeness when I have had absolutely nothing to drink.

I'm a social drinker and even then family obligations will make me avoid it. There are times when I go months without drinking. I almost never drink 2 days in row unless I'm on vacation.

When I was a lot younger I made a lot of poor and risky decisions in the name of fun after drinking. Waking up and not remembering what you did or waking up and not remembering how you got somewhere is really stupid. I hunted even when I wasn't supposed to. At one point I probably went out 7 days a week and got drunk. I didn't know how to drink or what a limit was. I was probably a high functioning alcoholic.

Maturity and added responsibility changed that. I still drink enough whenever I drink but I'm aware of my limit and I never pass it. I've been blessed in so many ways to have safely overcome a lot of stupidity without any lasting damage.

I was always bitter about that song because it seemed to replace "Iris" and "Black Balloon" in the rotation.

I wish I didn't drink as much when I was younger but my group of friends were big bing drinkers. Most activities we did involved heavy drinking. I feel like I missed out on too many other activities because we always partying so much. It took me probably to my late 20s to realize the benefits of only having a couple beers and then feeling good in the morning. Nowadays I still drink most weekend nights but it is always at home and in much smaller amounts. Having a headache the next morning pisses me off. Sometimes I slip up and overdo it but not as often as in the past. I am too scared to go out to a bar and then drive home. I've got too much to lose. But quit drinking altogether? Fuck no. I enjoy sitting on the couch watching a game and drinking beer to do that. What's next- is someone going to tell me to stop drinking coffee?

It sounds like something Paul Westerberg wrote and then threw in a wastebasket because it's too fuckin' hokey.

stay strong. i have a good friend who is 20 years sober but still refers to himself as an "alcoholic" as a reminder that it's always there. if he goes out with friends who drink (like me), he'll usually have non-alcoholic beer. there are a few that aren't bad.

I do agree that being around drunk people when sober sucks but that is true for a lot of activities you are missing out on. It is like going to a football game with a bunch of people but you are the only one who can't watch.

My uncle died from alcoholism in his 40s. Family and friends tried to help but denial is strong. If people you know are telling you that your drinking may be a problem try and take it to heart.

Drinking in moderation is great. I rarely get drunk anymore, but a nice buzz every so often is splendid.

More than drug abuse I believe alcoholism really hurts the people around you that have to live with the highs and lows. Lady Nas would say there is some mental illness that isn't being treated that is the cause of the drinking. MANY believe that they can stop the excessive drinking on their own. Maybe they could if they got help with their mental illness.

The thought of drinking, on a consistent or even annually, to the point of blacking out and not remembering where I was or what I did is just alien to me. Don’t get it. Also, rarely do I drink to the point of having a hangover. 2-3 drinks is enough for an evening and depending on how well spaced they are will leave me buzzed (but probably pushing legality with third). Now an extremely long day of college football or an extra inning game 7 in 2016.

It would be unusual for me to drink more than once a month and not unusual for me to not drink for months at a time. I didn't have that party time in my life after college because I was in two grad programs and working at the same time. Then I took two jobs in a row that were 24/7. Then I got married. There was never time to fall into the habit. I have a lot of friends who started working at CBOT right out of school. They worked four hour days and were out every single night. I felt like I was missing something and the truth is I did miss out on some of the good times they recall. A couple of them are also now alcoholics trying to recover. A couple more are divorced.

I do have fun when I drink. I got lit up on liquor last Friday, went to see The Trailer Park Boys live, and ended up going back stage and partying with Julian, Ricky, Bubbles and Randy. The night started to blur as my brother then wanted to go to Pops for Champagne and then a local bar. I ended at the 24 hour bagel shop on Touhy. I was absolutely flying. Then reality hit as soon as I opened the front door. All the kids were still up having a sleepover and running around. My wife was asleep because she decided since I was out, she got to go out as well. Ugliness occurred and renewed my desire not to drink again...or will I?
