I said he's more of an assistant than an actual firefighter. Regarding my mascot comment, since he helps with fundraisers and at charity events such as Toys for Tots I could see someone fondly referring to him as the station mascot for being the face of the station house at those events.

I'm not sure what's fucked up about that. It's not like I asked him to provide documentation proving he passed the physical and completed the necessary paperwork.

His sister says he was bullied, yet nowhere do I see any description of how he was bullied. They voted to let him in as a cadet, so the majority must be accepting of him and the fact he has returned to the fire house makes it seem like whatever transpired probably wasn't severe. But I would like to know what exactly took place. Hard to call someone who doesn't actually fight fires a fire fighter, but it is nice that he is helping out and it makes him feel better about life.....having a purpose and contributing as much as he can.

Deleting him from a paging system for fire fighters makes some sense in that he was not actually allowed to do any fire fighting. But that should be the fire chiefs call. Calling someone who is mentally retarded a retard is mean, but factually correct. I'm not sure this rises to the level of bullying. If they stuck him in a locker, gave him a swirley or threatened him somehow with physical harm, that sounds more like bullying. This sounds more like assholes who just didn't like having a kid with Downs Syndrome hanging around for some reason. Maybe my definition of bullying is just a bit different though.
