Have taught 3 of my 4 daughters to drive. No real good stories so far. Everything has went pretty smooth. We practiced a lot in a big church parking lot.

My youngest got his license in December. On friday night he had to drive home in the heavy snow. By his High school, he very gently slid into the car in front of him, which was being driven by a neighbor's daughter.

Good lesson for him. No damage, but he was royally freaked out. We immediately went to the parking lot of the neighborhood park and made him get over it real quick. I think he gets the whole anti-lock breaks now. Good lesson for him.

Well we logged two hours and fifteen minutes this weekend. no damage other than my blood pressure. going to need new brake pads and rotors by the time this is over.

The blood pressure and brake pads were part of the reason I said farm it out. I did it with three and it just was very stressful. All three had differing issues. The worst part in all of it though is the testing day. PA is very strict and you begin the test trying to parallel park into a box basically. Fail any part and the test is over and you get three tries but 7 days between tests. You can probably guess that the teacher gets the angry blame when the kid fails.

First time I drove in the snow my dad took me directly to a mammoth empty lot and made me drive (& brake) too fast for conditions to see how the car(& I) would respond. I still similarly brush up each year with the first snow.

Do they still have the requirement for parents to turn in a log showing that they supervised X# of hours with their 16 yr old driver? That was a royal pain in the ass (to make up).

I didn't want to condone cheating in front of the impressionable yutes so we sandbagged the hours by driving to and from Rockford on 90.

Actually trapped in a car for 90 minutes was a good forum for talking with them. No distractions and they couldn't escape.

so they have some kind of stupid law now that you have to have a permit for 9 months before you can get your license. 50 hours in 9 months will not be a problem at all.
