No. It's spending the night in jail or lock-up.

I was there from like 130-4 and it should have been the cabbie, not me!

My partner is in Stateville now. He was moved from Menard. I'm guessing Menard is crazier than Stateville. I'll have to ask him. There's a whole Yelp-type network that these guys have regarding the various prisons.

I visited him at Menard. That place is like Shawshank. Something out of another era.

Joe, can you tell us what your partner did to get all of this time?

He shot a guy over a land deal gone bad. Rang his doorbell and shot him five times while his family was in the other room watching Bowfinger.

Holy shit and if the guy survived he is a terrible shot. But I would never tell him that.

Oh yeah, I forget to mention, he didn't succeed but then he tried to hire a guy to finish the job while he was in Lake County jail.

There was a lot of fallout from the whole thing including civil suits. One of the cases went to the Supreme Court. It's a very important case and is now taught in law schools:

https://www.casebriefs.com/blog/law/tor ... g-v-gross/

There is some wrong stuff in that case brief. He didn't kill the guy. I believe he is still alive.

Doesn't seem like a guy who is a good candidate for an early release

JORR's the best poster and the best musician on this board, and even if I wasn't scared shitless of him, I'd say so.

He's around 65 years old. He's served a lot of time and done it without causing any problems. He's been a model prisoner. I'm sure the guy he shot and his family are going to object, but there are many worse criminals that have already been released due to COVID.

Reading about the man who was executed by the Feds last night was depressing. Seemed like a good candidate for commutation.

Nobody really thought he was serious. It was like if IMU burned Rick's house down and Rick's wife sued the board because we all knew it was going to happen.

6 months in Cook County

For what, and what was it like, if you don't mind me asking?

I'll say this. I had a couple of clients that quickly took pleas to serve their short time in Statesville as opposed to waiting on the 45 days to trial stuck in the County.

I am not going into what it was again. It has been all over the board due to two fucking slimebags.

If I was in General population ,it would have been bad but I was in Division 10, the mental health ward. Wasn't that bad, dorm like you where in a room with about 50 other guys. They kept you pretty doped up. They maxxed out your meds so basically all I did was sleep and read. Couple guys I would talk to rest where not worth it. My parents sent some books so I always had new things to read and I would trade them. Plus,I had money to buy food . They only bad thing with that was the guys with nothing always begging. I would always buy extra for the ones I liked so I would give them some.
They only rough parts was when you had to actually go to court. You get up at 3am,take meds, then slowly and I mean slowly make your way to the main pen,sit in a space with about 100 people in a space for 50. before you even get on the bus you go through 3 strip searches. then you get your food for the day,2 baloney sandwiches and a juice. get to the courthouse, sit for a couple of hours till you are moved to your court room. talk to your lawyer for like 3 min tops. Then in front of the judge for 2 min if lucky. then back to holding until everyone is done, then back on the bus. Holding cell, strip search , back to your division, strip search, back into your area. If you are lucky they saved your food tray from diner and you have some stone cold food to fill your stomach till the next morning. You would get back to you cot at around 7pm. Longest days of my life. almost the entire time you are cuffed to another person.
The guards are for the most part okay, just dont act like a dick. I saw one of the nicest ones ever knock a guy out cold for spiting at the feet of a nurse. One guy used to bring a DVD player in on weekends and play movies so he would have an easy time. Then again I was in the crazy ward so there was not many violent people there.
I say to this day,I been in Cook County and I been in a State mental hospital, give me County any day of the week.

How did you end up in the mental health ward rather then gen pop?

Prior history of mental health issues as well as prescribed medications

Plus,I tried to suicide while in the police lockup. If I was more on the ball I could have sued them into the ground not only for the attempt but for what they did to me after

One day in the lock up cell for me.

I was 18. I was pissing outside cuz I had to go. Had a beer in my hand. It was outside a frat house. I ran when the cop stopped me so it was three charges. Public intoxication, underage drinking and resisting arrest.

It was actually no big deal. I thought it was at the time. Cuz I eventually had to tell my parents about it. I needed the car for the court date. It was in Bloomington, Normal. That was the biggest deal. Telling them.

I tell the story now to friends and family. They ask me what was it like to be in jail for one night. I tell them it was no big deal. That I don't even know. I was so drunk that I passed out on the cot with in minutes of them throwing me in the cell. Next day, I woke up, they gave me a bagel and orange juice. Then they released my ass.

I was solo in my jail cell. So I didn't get ass raped in case you were wondering.

Just think in todays world you would have to register as a sex offender

There was a website Illinoisprisontalk.org. Looks like it is gone. Full of information. Kept in touch with couple of guys I met while in county that went into the prison system.
One guy is waiting on an actual innocence case being worked on by Northwestern, I cant say alot just that it is totally fucked up and when he gets out he is going to be a very rich man. I send them books and stuff. It is amazing the list of what you can and cant send.

One more thing ,you know what was the worst part of it all. The temp of the food. Nothing was ever cold or hot. Sort of lukewarm. First thing I did when I got home was chug 2 cans of coke from the fridge

If you ever take a trip down to Cobb County, Georgia.
You better read the signs
Respect the law and order.
You'll serve hard times.
You'll be serving hard times.
You know the Big Boss Man will make you walk the line.
You better watch out boy or you'll be serving hard time.
He carries a big stick, a ball and chain too.
If you're looking for trouble he'll be coming after you.

I know. I knew it when he was sending out free stuff. I think it set him straight when I told him he was sending it to my brother who was a prosecutor.

I don't think the people here are criminally dangerous, but I think there are some that could be with the wrong kind of prodding.
