I've been working on it for almost a year now. I'm right on top of my goal of 200 (from 265 1/1/11), but not quite past it.
So fuck 200. I'm going to 190 in 8 weeks. A few things I can change will help.
I'm gonna put down the bottle for a while. Work bullshit and holiday parties and weddings have had me way way too drinky lately.
Stepping my my workout regime. I don't need to get into too many details but of my hour on the treadmill I'll speed up my rate and run longer. I've already added a half MPH and an extra mile so I think I can handle it.
Upping workouts from 4 a week to 6. Sounds excessive but its only an 8 week program. After that I will throttle back to maintenance style working out.
I figure I'd like to bottom out around 185. I'll see how I feel when I get there. See you on the dark side.

Well, I now realize I probably should have found out what kind of shape I was in before making
some bold plan out of the box. I hit the gym last night and pushed out just over 3 miles
in 30 minutes and was gassed. I managed 100 crunches and a little bit of lifting and I slinked out
a little dejected but proud that I at least started something. I was on the treadmill this morning at
4:10 and did another 3. I have been in this position of practically starting over before and I know if
I stick with it for 2 weeks it will get much easier. Every journey starts with the first step right?

Very nicely done T-bone, I have to get my fat ass going too. When I was at the doctor right before Christmas he was none to happy with me.

Well, just reporting in that I haven't been to the gym in two weeks so my commitment to excellence
has been failing miserably. I don't think I have gained much weight but just feel like a slob. I still
have time to pull it together so I am making myself get back in there tonight. Doesn't hurt that I
secured a date on Friday so while cramming exercise is not the same as studying, I can at least
feel a little better for it.

Well I have finally gotten started on dropping some weight and getting in better shape. Lost about 10lbs so far and already feel a lot better. Been playing basketball a couple nights a week and doing some jogging/walking the other days. One of my problems in the past has been sticking to any type of diet. So I have been following the idea of only worrying about calories and nothing else. I been staying around 1500 calories a day. Helps me to not feel like I am on a "diet" and be able to eat the same things as my family. So like yesterday when we stopped at Wendy's I did not need to force myself to eat a salad, but I had a chicken sandwich and some chili and adjusted from there the rest of the day. And today I had a craving for something sweet so I went by McDonalds and got a vanilla cone and that hit the spot and only was 150 calories. So hopefully I have found something I can stick with over the long haul.

RF, good to hear. here are some recommendations...follow them as you will:

sweets: don't do snackwells ever but if you want something sweet, try some flavored rice cakes. they're not bad and they may quench the sweet tooth.

when eating salads, use balsamic vinaigrette because it's less fattening and it tastes good...

cut out drinking to the point of only partaking once a month.

finally--keep exercising. try to keep up the cardio 3 times a week. the more you do it, the less you have to cut out the shit above.

Thanks, I will keep those in mind.

Flavored rice cakes? Eh man I would have to be pretty desperate for something sweet

I hardly ever drink, so that one will be pretty easy and I have cut out all soda and stuff like that. I have pretty much been drinking unsweet tea and water.

 well, just in case. actually if you don't drink and have cut out soda, you can loosen up with the sugar and eat cookies and ice cream and stuff...just don't overdo it. but it sounds like you're paying attention to the labels so you'll be fine.

I have tried to commit myself to doing more pullups this year. I have finally gotten to the point where I can do enough in a set to be able to get a good amount of total reps without taking all day to do them.

Bump....

The wheels completely came off after this post. I recently turned 36 and decided to cut out any and all
unnecessary drinking. I am up a good 10 lbs since this post, so although I am starting behind the 8-ball
I am going to try to jump back on it. Started running outside this week and been to the gym some too.
I am getting into a weight loss competition with some guys at work where everyone is tossing in $50
for a little extra motivation. 10 weeks for greatest % of base weight. I got really lazy after I started
dating again.

So what you're saying is that you're not cutting out any drinking. Got it.

Honestly I am cutting out all hard liquor. I will still occassionally partake in beer consumption.
Had to cut out the hard stuff for a number of reasons including weight gain.

I have been stuck at 15lbs lost for a couple weeks. Need to step up some harder exercise and get back to losing.

Gonna blow the dust of this thread for the last quarter of the year. Due to various and sundry events , my commitment to excellence has dropped off quite a bit the last few months and the expected weight gain has taken its toll on my once proud uninspiring physique. Weighed in Monday at 202, which is horrifying as I usually hover between 175 to 180. So enough is enough, the bullshit excuses Ive been using are just that, so Im making a push for the modest goal of 180 by the end of the year. Anyone else for a little maintenance weight loss? Ill post where I am at weekly until I get there.

I continue to debate whether I should join a gym or not, because working out at home hasn't yeilded the results I want. I've kept a regular workout schedule for almost 2 years now, but I still haven't lost as much weight as I'd like (which I attribute to eating like an asshole).

I have been hovering around the 20 lb lost mark. I have been utilizing the Tall Midget lunch program and I frequent the same grocery store just about every day to get a piece of fruit and the lady at the check out told me yesterday she could tell all the fruit I was eating was working as it looks like I have lost a lot of weight. So that was nice to hear and gave me some added motivation to keep at it. I do need to find more time to exercise though.

What is the Tall Midget lunch plan? Heirloom tomato sandwiches?

I had to get back on a plan so I started last week. Down 5 lbs so far.

Will be having a Jimmy John's Unwich for lunch today. Really....really looking forward to it....really....

 TM had an apple a day for lunch and then I believe ate a normal supper.

I have been having different pieces of fruit for lunch--nectarines, banana, apple, pear. Nectarines are probably my favorite.

I couldn't do that. I've tried to cut down on the lunch intake but I'm so damn hungry when I get home that I eat everything in sight as soon as I get in the door.

For weightloss, diet is much more important than exercise. It's very hard to burn and additional, say, 500 calories, whereas it's quite easy to consume the same.

Right on the mark. Even cutting out small unnecessary things can add up. My best example is that Chipotle is my favorite fast food and my burrito would run 1100 calories which would roughly be a 7 mile hour run for me. By cutting out cheese, sour cream, switching to burrito bowl and brown rice my "burrito" sunk to 605 calories.

Empty calories are a killer to weight loss.

Correct, 30 min of exercise and a good cleaning up of ones diet is pretty much it when it comes to health.

Getting rid of soft drinks should be in the top 3 on everyone's list.

Got rid of soda almost three years ago. Now, if I could just cut out my 240-calorie Lagunitas beers.

Actually not horrible.

Still had the bacon and mustard, oil, and vinegar on the old Club Lulu. Take out the bun and mayo and that thing goes from like 725 calories down to 313.

I'd get it again.
