Might be cool. If you want to see some of the best players in the world in person it may be worth
checking out and grabbing some swag on the way out, maybe take a spin around the course. I
am definitely going to be content to watch on TV this weekend. Like IMU said. If it gets you out of
work, Ryder Cup FTW.

yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the course, although I'll probably be a little upset I dont have my clubs with me. Those fuckers are only using 4 holes at a time, what's the big deal if I play the back while they are on the front????

I hear the gift/pro shop is over a mile long! Definitely gonna pick up some RC merch.

I talked to my buddy who I'm going with on Sunday and he has some sort of sponsor credentials, he says we will have no problem getting close to the action so I hope that's true cause that would be awesome!

Even the people-watching is cool. Not the same level of female talent as say an F1 race, but it's all good. Saw Jessica Biel with some guy named Justin.

Just got home from the opening ceremonies, and I have to admit, I was pretty underwhelmed.

Today's action was pretty lackluster, even for a practice round. Most players only played 9 holes, and many of the Americans started on the 15th(?!) hole and played through to hole no. 7. Fans were not aware of this going in, so many of us sat on the first hole hoping players would come through. We got to the course at about 8:30am and didn't see a single golfer until 10:30am.

What should be obvious but makes for poor course viewing is the fact that groups were going off 4 players at a time. Since there were only 24 players competing, most of the course had no action at any given point while other holes were 10-18 people deep. Unless you planned accordingly, there was no chance you could get a close look at your favorite players.

We were positioned at most teeboxes to snap a few photos, but Tiger didn't even tee-off most of his holes, choosing instead to simply walk to the fairway and hit two or three approach shots. Many fans were upset, especially those of us who could only attend one day of the event.

The biggest clusterfuck of the day, however, was right before the opening ceremonies. A massive crowd was attempting to walk to the left of the stage toward the main exit while more people who had arrived to watch the ceremony were walking back toward us. To beer cart girls were parked in a walkway about 30 yards wide where thousands of people were trying to walk, which created an awful bottle-neck for fans. It literally took us 30 mins to walk 200 yards.

The one positive I will say, however, was that parking was flawless. We took advantage of free parking at the Forest Preserve just off of Glen Ellen and North Ave. They had about 10 Greyhound buses running non-stop, so we had no trouble getting in and out of the lot.

I cannot imagine how the crowds will be this weekend, and while I would love to see something special in-person at Medinah, sitting on my couch with a few Heinekens sounds much more appealing.

yea I got a real bad feeling its just going to be a complete waste of time being there tomorrow.

How far away is that Forest Preserve you're talking about? I heard of a place to park called the Medinah Shriners, its 2 miles from the club and costs $35. I'll probably do that since its much closer than the free stuff, unless that forest preserve you're talking about is close.

anyone have an idea on how long the morning matches will take approximately? If I get to the course at say 10:30 will they be pretty much done or close to it at that point?

Anyone know what time the afternoon matches start? I might just stay home and watch the morning on tv and then go in the afternoon. My plan as it is now is to get there around 10:30 and catch the end of the morning and then watch most of the afternoon before going home and catching the rest on dvr.

Save the $35 and take advantage of the Forest Preserve or Arlington. Both lots are no more than a 10 minute bus ride from the course and they had constant buses running.

First match starts at 7:20am, and assuming it goes the full 18 holes (it won't) it will take about 4 hours to complete. You'll be able to catch the end of a few morning matches by 10:30am, including Tiger/Stricker.

In match one I give a slight edge to Rory over Snedeker, but I give a huge edge to Furyk over McDowell. McDowell's been garbage for over a month now whereas Furyk has contended just about every week. Plus, there are stories that McDowell's short game has been horrible all week.

In #2 I really like the chemistry of Keegan and Phil. I think matchup wise both teams are pretty even based on recent performances. Luke played great last week, but has been a non factor ever since he went to #1 prior to the British. Sergio won an event no one else was at and other than that hasn't exactly lit it up. Phil has been near the top in just about everything lately and although Bradley hasn't been that consistent, he's been near the top more than Luke or Sergio lately.

In #3, Westwood is coming off a disaster last weekend. Haven't heard his partner's name mentioned in a month till I heard it today. Duffner is simply slow and steady wins the race and Zack has been consistently in the top 10 lately. I'll take the americans here.

#4 is the only one that really worries me. Rose coming off a great weekend and he's paired with a guy who always plays well in these events. On the flipside we have Tiger and Stricker, been there done that. Tiger's game off the tee completely deserted him last weekend which has to be on his mind alongside the tremendous pressure he already feels from the RC. Rose and Poulter are best buds, they will feed off each other and get the win. Rose leads the tour in GIR and Poulter has a history of sinking big putts. That's a good combo.

thanks for the info Ugie.

Are there course maps/scorecards available so I can find my way around the course? Like if I get there and want to find the easiest way to #12 will I be able to or do I gotta start at 18 and just go backwards (which is my current plan)?

How's the merchandise tents? Good stuff? Wouldn't mind getting a golf shirt and a bag towel, maybe some other stuff as well.

Definitely plenty of course maps available that will help you get to one place or another. Good signage along the paths, too. Plus, if you need directions to any hole on the course, plenty of volunteers are available.

There is a MASSIVE golf merchandise tent near the 18th green. It is actually more like an airplane hangar than a tent. Lots of good stuff inside, including shirts, pants, jackets, hats, beer glasses, bags, etc. Be prepared to pay top-dollar though. The stocking hat I'm wearing in the picture above was $25, just for reference. I think shirts were going for $80 or $90. I did manage to find a beer pint for $10 though near the check-out.

Looking at the map, do I take 355 to North ave, go west to Glen Ellyn and take a right? Or is it a different forest preserve?

Really glad Hawger Jr. did his dad a favor and recorded this for his old man before he went to school today, that's a nice job out of the young Hawg.
